Included in this are, of course, some of the most sought-after SUVs on the market today, which, according to data provided by JATO Dynamics, did not necessarily experience an increase in registration numbers. In certain instances, such as with the Tesla Model Y, there was even a significant drop in sales.

The Volkswagen T-Roc has become a bestseller, trailing behind the ever-popular Golf, with 111,381 units sold, accounting for a 0% increase. This SUV tops the list of highest-selling vehicles for the first half of the year. Despite a mid-cycle refresh in 2022, the T-Roc did not introduce any electrified engines, instead opting to retain its traditional gasoline and diesel options.

The compact SUV from Volkswagen recorded a total of 111,381 units in Europe from January to June, a figure that is almost the same as the first half of 2023, indicating neither growth nor decline.

The Tesla Model Y, ranking as the top electric vehicle, is the second SUV to feature on the list of Europe's best-selling models in the first half of the year, with 101,181 units sold. However, this reflects a 26% decrease from the previous year. Notably, it's the only model on the list available exclusively as a battery-powered variant.

Sales totaled 101,181 units, a decrease of 26% compared to 2023, which could indicate that potential buyers are holding out for the updated version of the Model 3.

The electric vehicle known

Toyota Yaris Cross: 99,694 Units Sold, Up 3%

Unlike the initial SUVs mentioned which showed flat or declining sales, we start to notice an uptick in figures during the first half of 2023.

Topping the list is the Toyota Yaris Cross, a crossover model available exclusively with full hybrid engines producing either 116 or 130 horsepower, which has found particular favor in Italy. From January to June 2024, a total of 99,964 units were sold across Europe, marking a 3% increase from the previous year.

The Peugeot 2008 ranks fourth among Europe's top-selling SUVs for the first half of 2024, with registrations reaching 93,436 units on the European continent. This figure represents an 11% increase in sales compared to the previous year.

It is the sole model available with a range of powertrains, from the traditional gasoline engine, including the 1.2 Mild Hybrid that delivers 136 horsepower, to the pure electric option. This versatility is courtesy of the CMP Multi-Energy platform, which has been adopted from various other models within the Stellantis Group.

The latest model of the Dacia Duster made its appearance in the final weeks of 2023, and its status has remained consistent: it continues to be one of Europe's favorite SUVs.
