Jaguar’s Electrifying Dilemma: Transition Woes and the Push for Luxury EV Dominance
The head of Jaguar has described the process of transforming the brand into an entirely electric lineup as extremely challenging. Despite being a pioneer in introducing an electric car among luxury carmakers, Jaguar is struggling with the transition, according to a conversation the company's chief had with Top Gear.
Managing Director Rawdon Glover expressed significant irritation, noting the gap between the company's pledge to fully embrace electric vehicles and the apparent inaction, as Jaguar phases out almost their entire range in preparation for the launch of new electric models beginning in 2025.

The sole electric vehicle from Jaguar, the I-Pace, will not get a successor. Launched in 2018 and having undergone a few improvements since then, the decision has been made to discontinue the I-Pace instead of revamping it. For now, Jaguar will continue with just its petrol-powered F-Pace crossover, until it too is phased out, marking the end of Jaguar's traditional combustion engine period.
The leadership at Jaguar appears to have decisively settled on a plan for electric vehicles after some initial indecision. Originally, the company aimed to launch a new electric version of the XJ luxury car in 2021 to take the place of the traditional fuel-powered XJ, and also intended to further develop the I-Pace into a new iteration. However, they ultimately abandoned these projects, opting instead to start from scratch.

Jaguar is set to unveil an inaugural model for its upcoming electric-only range, anticipated to be a chic sedan or hatchback featuring a coupe-inspired design. A prototype offering a glimpse of this model will be showcased before the year ends. Additionally, an SUV and a grand sedan are on the horizon, all of which will likely come with a heftier price tag than Jaguar's current offerings.
Upcoming electric vehicles will be equipped with Tesla's proprietary North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports, enabling direct access to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network. Similarly, Land Rover, a sibling brand, is anticipated to incorporate this feature in their forthcoming EVs.
