Helmut Marko Hints at Post-Singapore Decision for VCARB F1 Seat: Ricciardo vs. Lawson Showdown
Helmut Marko hints at an announcement regarding the second VCARB F1 driver after the Singapore race. The new driver, who will join Yuki Tsunoda, is expected to be revealed following the event in Singapore.
Red Bull's consultant, Helmut Marko, hinted that the choice for VCARB's second Formula 1 driver will be revealed after the Singapore Grand Prix.
It remains uncertain who will partner with Yuki Tsunoda in the 2025 F1 season, with Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson being the primary contenders.
Although Ricciardo was considered the more probable candidate to replace Sergio Perez at Red Bull during the summer break, Tsunoda has typically outperformed the Australian this year.
Now, Red Bull faces a choice between Ricciardo and Lawson.
Last year, Lawson made a strong impression during his brief period as a substitute, interestingly enough, filling in for Ricciardo.
Overall, Ricciardo's performance has been disappointing, but he has consistently gotten better as the year has progressed.
Christian Horner, the head of Red Bull, is also in support of the Australian.
With Lawson on standby, Isack Hadjar making a mark in F2, and rising junior Arvid Lindblad also showing promise, creating an opportunity at VCARB might be advantageous for Red Bull's development program.
In an interview with Viaplay, Marko mentioned, “We have a plan, so stay tuned for Singapore. By September, we’ll have a definitive understanding.”
"The outcome will be revealed there."
Marko has confirmed again that Lawson will be a driver for one of Red Bull’s teams in 2025.
Should Ricciardo be replaced for the upcoming year, he would find himself without a seat in Formula 1.
A possible opening exists at Sauber, with the decision still pending on whether to choose Valtteri Bottas or McLaren junior driver Gabriel Bortoleto.
Mattia Binotto is anticipated to reach a conclusion within the next few weeks.
Valtteri Bottas has not managed to earn any points in 2024, primarily due to Sauber's subpar performance.
Bortoleto, currently leading the F2 rankings following the Baku races, would make for a more thrilling choice.
