Gasly Condemns Ocon’s Aggressive Move in Monaco Clash: Team Harmony and Future Strategies at Stake
Pierre Gasly sharply criticizes Esteban Ocon for First Lap Incident: 'Such actions are unacceptable'
Pierre Gasly expressed his clear frustration towards his teammate Esteban Ocon after they collided during the first lap in Monaco.
Pierre Gasly has sharply criticized his Alpine F1 teammate, Esteban Ocon, following a crash between the two on the first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix.
Ocon made a bold move to pass at Portier during the initial lap while competing for placement.
His forceful move caused them to crash as they were coming out of the turn, resulting in Ocon's car being launched into the air.
Ocon couldn't join the race again once it resumed following the red flag interruption.
Meanwhile, Gasly managed to persevere, securing the second point of the season for Alpine.
Recalling the incident following the race, Gasly expressed his frustration to Sky Sports, mentioning that he was "disappointed" with Ocon for not adhering to Alpine's "explicit directives."
"I'm simply let down. My disappointment primarily lies with Esteban because this situation should not have occurred, especially for the team," he expressed.
"Our team consists of 1200 employees, and we simply cannot tolerate such conduct."
Before the race, we were given explicit guidelines which were not adhered to, and it's unacceptable to engage in actions that risk eliminating both cars and your teammates.
"Certainly, it's expected to be a topic of conversation, and we simply cannot risk a repeat of this scenario moving forward."
Ocon accepted complete responsibility for the situation, admitting to it openly on social media platforms.
The ex-Mercedes backup driver expressed on his X profile: "I take responsibility for today's mishap; ultimately, the space was insufficient, and I extend my apologies to the team for this error. I'm wishing for the team to rightfully secure a points-finish today."
Ocon received a penalty of 10 seconds for his involvement in the incident, which has been changed to a grid penalty of five places for the upcoming race.
The officials observed and concluded that the crash resulted entirely from car 31 [Ocon]'s excessively bold move to overtake from a significant distance behind, placing the entire fault for the incident on them.
For this season, the standard punishment for instigating a crash is a penalty of 10 seconds. This was the sanction applied to vehicle number 31. Nonetheless, since car 31 did not complete the race, this penalty will be altered to a deduction of five places on the starting grid for the driver's subsequent race.
