2024 Volkswagen Taos: Der US-Tiguan erhält ein kraftvolles Facelift und mehr Leistung
The 2024 Volkswagen Taos: A Refresh for the American Equivalent of the Tiguan
Moreover, it boasts an increase in engine power
In the United States, the standard Tiguan as we know it isn't available. What's sold there as the Tiguan is actually the European version of the Tiguan Allspace. Instead, since 2021, America has had the Taos, which measures about 4.45 meters in length. It's now getting an update to more closely resemble the recently updated European Tiguan.
The 2025 US model year VW Taos isn't exactly a revolutionary new vehicle, nor is it just a rehashed version of last year's model. This SUV gets a subtle redesign, aligning it closer with the VW family aesthetic. The interior sees enhancements as well, and the engine bay houses an upgraded, more powerful engine among other improvements.

Let's start with the exterior where there's a redesigned front bumper and a fresh grille design. The grille has been repositioned to the lower section of the bumper, while the top section now features the slim light strip seen on vehicles like the Golf, the refreshed Euro-Tiguan, and the ID. series. It's linked at the corners with the more compact LED headlights, which have become a standard feature across the Taos lineup, resulting in a new, larger grille on the lower front bumper.
At the rear, a comparable design feature is present in the form of a light strip that links the tail lights, which maintain their original dimensions but are now housed in newly designed casings. This particular aspect is reminiscent of the VW T-Cross.
The interior features a revamped dashboard characterized by a prominent standalone 8.0-inch touchscreen at the center, offering a familiar yet distinct look. This feature is now standard across the model range, replacing the previous version's 6.5-inch integrated display. The dashboard's upper section has been redesigned to accommodate this change, and Volkswagen has introduced a new climate control system. In terms of technology, both the Park Distance Control and the Adaptive Front Light System are now accessible within the SE trim level.
Prospective buyers might be more intrigued by the updates made to the compact SUV's powertrain. The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine is still there, but it's been enhanced with fresh piston rings, injectors, an expanded intercooler, and an updated turbo housing. These improvements have bumped the power output up to 176 horsepower, marking a 16 horsepower increase from the previous version.
This performance is now delivered to the road via an eight-speed automatic transmission, regardless of the powertrain. It takes the place of the seven-speed DSG used in the 4Motion all-wheel-drive models, a switch that, according to VW, represents an enhancement demanded by customers in the US.

And indeed, the Taos has attracted buyers. In the US market, since its launch for the 2022 model year, Volkswagen's most compact SUV has been selling at an average rate of 60,000 units annually. To entice fresh customers, starting in 2025, the Taos will offer an expanded wheel selection and three new exterior colors: Bright Moss Green, Monterey Blue Pearl, and Monument Gray.
The cost for the latest VW Taos model is expected to be revealed later this year. It's anticipated to have a higher price tag compared to the previous version, which starts at $25,420, approximately 23,000 Euros, for the basic Taos S with front-wheel drive.
