The Chevy Blazer EV sets itself apart with a uniquely American design, moving away from the traditional soap-bar shape of electric vehicles to prioritize additional mileage.
The latest model of the Chevrolet Blazer EV, set to release in 2024, boasts a unique and striking exterior coupled with a roomy and solidly constructed interior. Having spent a week using one and embarking on a long drive, its performance in fuel efficiency was unexpectedly impressive. However, it does have its drawbacks, including a back seat that doesn’t accommodate all body types comfortably, a range indicator that lacks reliability, and a less than impressive accompanying iOS application.
After thoroughly testing the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, we've compiled a list of its advantages and disadvantages.

Positive: The Chevy Blazer EV boasts a design reminiscent of a Camaro
The vehicle's aesthetics seem to have been directly inspired by the iconic Camaro, with designers opting for a full embrace of its style. They did, however, decide against incorporating the Camaro's narrow windows. The Blazer EV's front features striking LED lights that accentuate its broad stature. Its rear lights align with the design language of the current Traverse and Equinox models, also featuring interactive light displays during charging. The lights serve as battery level indicators, progressively illuminating as the vehicle charges. The influence of the Camaro is further evident in the vehicle's curved front and back wheel arches. The design stands out as crisp and unique.

Upon entering, the interior is bustling with features. My father entered and couldn't help but express his amazement, comparing it to the Batmobile and half-jokingly suggested that flames should shoot out of the vents. The RS model I was testing featured a bold red interior that was quite striking to the eye. It boasts glossy chrome accents, intricately designed vents, an actual knob for volume control, and buttons for adjusting the climate. Despite the flair, it maintains a sense of familiarity, aligning well with Chevrolet's traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.

Negative: Passenger comfort in the back of the Chevy Blazer EV might differ from person to person
As someone who stands at 5 feet 10 inches, I found settling into the back seat of the Blazer EV easy and comfortable after adjusting the front seat to my preference. The area was spacious for my legs, knees, feet, and head, and the outer seats were quite cozy. Nevertheless, both my mother and wife mentioned spontaneously that they found the rear seating to be lacking in comfort. The design of the rear seat includes the LATCH system for child seats incorporated at the lower end of the seatback, unlike the usual design where it's tucked away between the cushions. This design choice creates a division in the lower part of the seatback, resulting in discomfort for some passengers due to it pressing into their lower back. Additionally, my wife felt that the placement of the seat belt attachment in the rear was awkward, causing discomfort to her neck. The middle seat in the rear is also less desirable as it is both recessed and narrow, making it an unpleasant spot for anyone to sit.

Advantage: Chevrolet Blazer EV's performance in terms of efficiency is commendable
In the realm of larger electric vehicles, achieving an efficiency benchmark of 3.0 miles per kilowatt-hour is considered exceptional. During everyday suburban commutes, the Chevrolet Blazer EV effortlessly maintained an average of 3.0 miles per kilowatt-hour without any particular focus on conserving energy. Furthermore, during two separate highway journeys exceeding 200 miles each, the Blazer EV held an average efficiency of 2.7 and 2.5 miles per kilowatt-hour even while cruising at speeds above 70 miles per hour, with external temperatures in the mid to high 70s and the interior climate set at a comfortable 68 degrees Fahrenheit. It's worth noting that challenging weather conditions, including strong winds and rain, contributed to a drop in efficiency on the second trip.

Negative: Inaccurate range predictions in the Blazer EV
It's crucial to monitor the battery level closely, similar to how you would keep an eye on a fuel gauge, and not rely too much on the Blazer EV's estimated range indicator. Unlike GM's previous electric vehicles like the Chevy Bolt EV, which were quite accurate, the Blazer EV's range estimations seemed to be quite erratic. I noticed that the vehicle consistently overestimated how far it could travel. This discrepancy may be linked to recent driving patterns. An interesting point to note is that the integrated Google Maps navigation seemed aware of the actual range limitations and would advise me on when to charge for my trip, even when the vehicle's range indicator suggested I had enough charge to reach my destination without an additional charge.

Advantage: The Chevy Blazer EV has a robust construction
The vehicle's construction was reliable, with all components firmly assembled. The spaces between panels were minimal, the doors shut with a convincing sound, and every knob, button, or handle I interacted with was secure and did not rattle, squeak, or come across as low-quality.

Negative: The Chevrolet iOS app lacks modernity
The advent of software-defined vehicles has made it possible to manage them via a smartphone. Unfortunately, Chevrolet's iOS application, which is essentially a rebranded version of the Cadillac and GMC app, seems outdated compared to the offerings from Rivian, Lucid, or Tesla. Launch the app, and you'll notice the last refresh time was quite a bit ago—often between half an hour to nearly an hour. That doesn't reflect the vehicle's live status. Whether the car is charging or if it's locked remains unknown unless you manually refresh the app, which frustratingly takes a long time to update. Even simple actions like starting the car or unlocking it are sluggish, taking too long to complete.
Aside from the Chevy iOS application, the Blazer EV gives us a glimpse into Chevrolet's upcoming direction. It presents a future that feels recognizable and conventional, yet is driven by electric power instead of traditional fuel. It's an attractive option and deserves consideration alongside competitors like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y.
