Jeep Chief Stands Firm: Wagoneer S Launch Delayed for Perfection or Not at All
Chief of Jeep: Launch of Wagoneer S could be postponed to ensure top-notch quality
Jeep's head honcho has indicated that the company's initial U.S. electric offering, the 2024 Wagoneer S, might face delays in hitting the market if it doesn't meet the highest quality standards, as discussed in a conversation with Automotive News.
Jeep has announced that the Wagoneer S, unveiled in May, is set to hit U.S. showrooms in the autumn season. However, this rollout is contingent upon the electric SUV living up to the quality benchmarks set by CEO Antonio Filosa.
Upcoming 2024 Model of the Jeep Wag
Filosa expressed to Automotive News, "My aim is for impeccable quality. While we're nearly there, merely being close doesn't cut it. Although timing matters, what's paramount is delivering flawlessness to the customers who will do us the honor of purchasing this vehicle."
Filosa mentioned he was informed by the Toluca, Mexico plant, where the Wagoneer S is manufactured, that there's been an improvement in quality. He did not acknowledge any postponement. However, he stressed that the directive for the Wagoneer S is to withhold its release unless the quality is flawless.
Upcoming 2024 Model of the Jeep Wag
Constructed using Stellantis' STLA Large framework, the Wagoneer S matches the Jeep Grand Cherokee in dimensions. Its introduction will feature a two-motor system capable of delivering 600 horsepower and 617 pound-feet of torque, achieving a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. Jeep has indicated that its EPA-estimated range could exceed 300 miles, although this has not been officially confirmed. Currently, Jeep has only provided information on the initial version of the Wagoneer S, priced at $71,995 including the delivery charge. Additional models are expected to be released in the 2025 lineup.
Next year, the Wagoneer S will see the addition of the Jeep Recon, an all-electric vehicle akin to the Wrangler. Additionally, Jeep plans to introduce a new midsize vehicle with electric capabilities in 2026, potentially taking the place of the current Cherokee. Jeep has announced that by 2025, its entire range will feature various power alternatives.
