Audi’s Brand Identity Shakeup: Future Chinese Models May Ditch Iconic Four Rings
The upcoming Audi may not feature the iconic four rings
Speculation suggests that Audis destined for the Chinese market might not include the traditional emblem
Picture an Audi. Whether it's a fresh-off-the-line model or a classic, a robust SUV or a sleek sedan, a zippy sports car or a compact vehicle, those four intertwined rings are always present. This emblematic symbol of the German automaker is an essential element for each of its models. However, this steadfast rule could be subject to change in the near future.
According to a report released by Reuters, future Audis produced in collaboration with SAIC intended for the Chinese market might not feature the iconic four-ring logo. Here's why.
The choice made by Audi is reportedly due to their partnership with SAIC, in recognition of the significant assistance provided in the development of future electric vehicles, which are anticipated to include nine models by the year 2030.
According to sources referenced by Reuters, no additional information was provided, leaving us uncertain whether the new series, internally named "Purple," will feature a different logo, the Audi inscription, or some other change. However, it appears we won't have to wait much longer to discover this.
Conceptual Design of the Audi Grandsphere
Sources indicate that a preliminary prototype car from the partnership between Audi and SAIC is expected to be unveiled in November, during which time top executives from both companies may shed light on their strategic plans for the future.
When approached by Reuters for comments, Audi chose not to address the speculations, labeling them as purely speculative. On the other hand, SAIC has stated that the upcoming electric vehicles will be "authentic Audis". The emblem featuring four rings dates back to 1932, marking the merger of the four automobile brands DKW, Wanderer, Audi, and Horch into the Auto Union.
In every instance, the latest updates retain the familiar emblem: The A5 and A5 Avant are set to replace the current A4 series, as even numbers will be exclusively designated for electric vehicles moving forward. This includes the new A6 e-tron, which boasts a range of up to 750 kilometers. We will review all the Audi model series and explore what's in store for their future.
