Francesco Bagnaia Chooses Neutral Ground Amid Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez Controversy
Francesco Bagnaia distances himself from Valentino Rossi’s recent remarks about Marc Marquez, stating, "I wasn't competing in MotoGP at that time, and I prefer to stay out of it because it doesn't concern me."
Francesco Bagnaia has stated that he intends to stay neutral and not get involved in any conflicts between his mentor Valentino Rossi and his upcoming Ducati factory team partner Marc Marquez.
In a recent podcast, Rossi revisited a highly contentious moment in MotoGP history, reiterating his belief that Marquez intentionally planned to assist Jorge Lorenzo during the final stages of the 2015 season.
When questioned about Rossi's recent statements just before this weekend's Emilia Romagna event, current double titleholder Bagnaia responded:
"Frankly, I'm not involved in this… I wasn't competing in MotoGP during that period, and I prefer to stay out of it because it doesn't concern me."
As the 2015 championship battle between Rossi and Lorenzo approached its peak, Rossi openly charged Marquez with engaging in unsportsmanlike behavior right before the second-to-last race in Malaysia. This accusation came just days after Marquez had overtaken Lorenzo in the final lap at Phillip Island.
Following Rossi's allegations, the initial laps of the Sepang race saw an intense struggle between Rossi and Marquez. Eventually, a frustrated Rossi pushed Marquez off the racing line.
The Repsol Honda rider had an accident, and as a consequence, Rossi received penalty points. When these new points were added to a previous penalty point, it resulted in him starting from the back of the grid in the Valencia final race.
Lorenzo secured the world championship title with a five-point lead.
