Child Stabbed Near Japanese School in China on Historical Anniversary; Suspect Detained
On the politically charged anniversary of September 18th, a Japanese schoolchild was stabbed in China. Authorities have arrested a 44-year-old man linked to the assault on the young student, who is currently receiving medical care for the wounds sustained in the incident.
A child was hospitalized following a stabbing incident by an individual while en route to a primary school in Shenzhen, southern China, on Wednesday morning.
Local authorities reported that on Wednesday afternoon, a 44-year-old individual identified by the surname Zhong was arrested at the scene. He is charged with assaulting a minor using a knife in the Nanshan district of Shenzhen shortly after 8 a.m.
The police did not disclose the nationality or gender of the child but confirmed that the last name is of Chinese origin. Earlier reports from Kyodo, a Japanese news agency, identified the victim as a young boy attending elementary school.
In their announcement, law enforcement indicated that both the inquiry into the incident and medical care for the child's injuries are continuing.
An official from the Japanese embassy in Beijing has verified that the child was assaulted and is currently undergoing medical care in a hospital. The identity of the victim and the severity of his injuries have not been disclosed.
