IAA Transportation 2024: Volkswagen Unveils New Multivan eHybrid 4Motion
Additionally, fresh iterations of the ID.Buzz are presented
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' highlight at the IAA Transportation 2024 is undoubtedly the latest version of the Transporter and Caravelle. However, updates aren't limited to these models, as there are also exciting developments for the Multivan and ID.Buzz series.
For the first time, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has unveiled the Multivan in a version that features both a plug-in hybrid and all-wheel drive. This new Multivan eHybrid 4Motion represents the first vehicle series from the Volkswagen Group's Modular Transverse Matrix to be equipped with this combination. With a powerful 180 kW (245 hp) plug-in hybrid engine, the Multivan eHybrid 4Motion can operate as an electric vehicle for daily use, as its 19.7-kWh battery allows it to cover significant distances purely on electric power.

The second-generation plug-in hybrid engine operates with remarkable efficiency, thus allowing for extensive travel distances before needing to refuel. This drive system is a hybrid of an electric motor and a sophisticated turbocharged gasoline engine (1.5 TSI evo2) equipped with a VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) charger.
At the same time, the ID. Buzz program has expanded in both directions. In addition to the 210 kW (286 hp) Pro models with standard wheelbase (SWB) and 79-kWh battery, the equally powerful 210 kW ID. Buzz with an extended wheelbase (EWB) featuring a larger 86-kWh battery and a range of up to 487 km has recently become available. Additionally, two 250 kW (340 hp) GTX models with all-wheel drive can now be ordered (SWB: 79 kWh, range up to 423 km, EWB: 86 kWh, range up to 475 km).
For the first time, the ID. Buzz Cargo 4MOTION with its 250 kW power is available with all-wheel drive instead of the traditional rear-wheel drive, consistently featuring a wheelbase, a battery capacity of 79 kWh, and a range of up to 432 km. The introduction of all-wheel drive increases the towing capacity of the ID. Buzz models from 1,200 kg to a maximum of 1,800 kg (when braked, on a 12% incline).

The lineup is soon to be expanded with the introduction of the ID. Buzz Pure, the ID. Buzz Freestyle, and the ID. Buzz Pure Cargo, which offer 125 kW (170 HP) and a 59-kW battery. The new ID. Buzz Cargo Pure model starts at €42,710 (excluding tax) in Germany. Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will also present an ID. Buzz Cargo version designed for refrigeration by the German body manufacturer Wükaro at the IAA. This marks the first time an electric drive is paired with an all-electric refrigeration system.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has upgraded its Crafter model, incorporating a newly designed dashboard. With this update, a latest generation infotainment system has been introduced, notable for its prominent, stand-alone display screen. The standard infotainment system provided is the "Composition," while the "Discover Media" navigation system is available as an optional extra at the initial upgrade stage. Both systems feature a 26 cm diagonal touchscreen, equivalent to 10.4 inches. Additionally, the "Discover Pro" navigation system offers a larger screen option, measuring 32 cm or 12.9 inches diagonally.

The latest Crafter model now comes standard with the "Digital Cockpit Pro" digital instruments, marking the first time this feature is included. Additional new features include an electronic parking brake with an Auto-Hold feature, which creates more space in the passageway. The vehicle is now equipped with a significantly increased number of assistance systems as standard. For the first time, the Crafter is offering the optional "Travel Assist," which provides assisted longitudinal and lateral guidance.
The Crafter model, depending on the version, can be front-wheel, rear-wheel, or all-wheel drive and is powered by 2.0-liter turbo diesel engines that produce 103 kW (140 horsepower), 120 kW (163 horsepower), or 130 kW (177 horsepower). In addition to the standard manual 6-speed transmission, there is an option for an 8-speed automatic transmission.
