Alberto Puig Reveals Why Marc Marquez’s Ducati Victory Took Longer and Celebrates His Aragon Triumph
Alberto Puig identifies the cause of Marc Marquez's delayed victory on a Ducati
Honda executive comments on Marc Marquez's success at Aragon
Alberto Puig has explained the reasons behind Marc Marquez's delay in securing his first victory after leaving Honda.
Marquez achieved his initial victories riding a Ducati last weekend in Aragon, showcasing his vintage form for a flawless performance.
Marquez mentioned that he went to see his old teammates at Honda, the team with which he secured his eight world titles, to make them feel included in his latest achievement.
Repsol Honda team manager Puig expressed his happiness over Marc's win, stating that he had anticipated it, in an interview with El Periodico.
"Let me add this: I thought he would clinch the victory earlier, but I was really taken aback by the gap between this year's Ducati and the 2023 Ducati."
"I believe that this significant difference has hindered Marc from securing victories during the initial part of the season."
"Additionally, Pecco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, and Enea Bastianini are all performing exceptionally well, proving themselves to be outstanding riders."
Puig’s Honda continues to lag at the rear of the starting lineup, which was the primary factor behind Marquez's decision to leave last year.
However, he argues that using a 2023 Ducati has hindered Marquez's performance this season.
This is why I believe Marc's recent accomplishment of winning on last year's motorcycle, competing against the official Ducati bikes, is even more impressive.
While I am not directly associated with Ducati, I have spent many years observing and analyzing their races. The change between this year's Ducati and last year's model is significant.
"Therefore, Marc's achievement in securing victory in Aragon is truly significant. And, as I mentioned before, I anticipated this outcome, so it doesn't astonish me at all."
Puig honored the former champion who used to be a key figure for Honda.
"I am more familiar with Marc Marquez than anyone else; he has extraordinary riding skills."
“I understand that after his serious crash in Jerez, a lot of people questioned him.
"I get it, because everything was tough. It wasn't just the injuries and the double vision in his eyes; the motorcycle also had issues. But despite all of that, I never once doubted that I would come out on top again."
"Marc is back to his old self, securing victory once more. This triumph isn't due to his talent, the Ducati, or his new team. No, not at all."
"Marc claimed victory once more because he had a clear strategy."
"When you are fixated on achieving a goal and possess the same clarity and determination that Marc does, it becomes inevitable that you'll accomplish what you set out to do."
"Especially when considering someone as unique as Marc."
