Yamaha’s Optimistic Horizon: Significant Strides in Bike Development and a Glimmer of Hope at Misano Test
Yamaha sees emotional balance yet spots a glimmer of hope in motorcycle progress
Massimo Meregalli revealed his positive outlook following the Misano trials
Yamaha has shared a positive outlook on their motorcycle advancements following the MotoGP test at Misano.
The manufacturer from Japan conducted tests on both the chassis deployed during the MotoGP sprint race in San Marino and a newly developed engine.
The motor, referred to as "the foundation of the 2025 engine, the initial model," was employed by Alex Rins, who remarkably reduced his race time by 0.5-0.7 seconds.
"The test plan wasn't extensive, as we've had the opportunity to test items previously," explained team manager Massimo Meregalli.
Four weeks ago in Misano, we assessed the most recent, third version of the aerodynamics. Shortly thereafter, we officially approved the aero package.
"In this experiment, we conducted a preliminary test on a chassis, which yielded results."
"We initiated the race in the leading position, altering our approach to getting ready for the Grand Prix."
"Despite my efforts to control my feelings, it's evident that we're making some progress."
Since the start of the season, we've truly put in a lot of effort.
The small enhancements that are visible and tangible offer us a sense of satisfaction.
"They serve as an extra enhancement."
Yamaha has appointed Andrea Dovizioso to fill in for the injured test rider, Cal Crutchlow. They intend to rely on Dovizioso once more for the testing in Jerez come November.
According to a report from Motorsport.com, the manufacturer is expected to switch from their current inline-four engine to a V4 with the onset of the 2027 regulations.
The Yamaha team's garage has not witnessed smiles for quite a while.
Fabio Quartararo's seventh-place result in the recent San Marino MotoGP, along with his 10th place in qualifying and ninth in the sprint, further fuel hopes for a positive outlook.
