What led us to this conclusion? Initially, it was the observation that the new Mini Five-door bears a striking resemblance to its predecessor. Moreover, during a recent visit to the BMW World in Munich, we stumbled upon the latest Mini Three-door combustion engine model sporting lever-style door handles, which stood out in contrast to the foldable handles we remembered from the electric version. This piqued our curiosity and set us off on a research quest…
Let's start with the latest electric Mini three-door model. Known officially as Cooper E with 135 kW/184 horsepower, it offers an approximate range of 300 kilometers, and the Cooper SE with 160 kW/218 horsepower, boasting an approximate range of 400 kilometers. This vehicle, internally named J01, measures 3,858 mm in length, 1,756 mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,526 mm.

The J01 is a collaborative effort with Great Wall Motors (GWM) and shares technical similarities with the Ora 03. Upon closer inspection, one can notice a distinctive crease at the bottom of the doors, a feature absent in the combustion engine three-door model. Additionally, it includes the previously mentioned pop-out door handles. There's also a "small" front hood which, unlike the traditional hood of the BMW Mini, does not open entirely upwards.
The three-door Mini with a gasoline engine, slated for release in 2024 and codenamed F66, represents an evolution of the existing model rather than a complete overhaul. However, its design has been significantly influenced by the U01. This is also indicated by its internal code F66, succeeding the previous model, the F56.

Let's examine the dimensions: It measures 3,876 millimeters in length, which is a tad longer than the U01 model, yet it's slightly narrower with a width of 1,744 millimeters. The wheelbase, at 2,495 millimeters, remains the same as the previous F56 model. At the front, the F66 sets itself apart with a distinct grille design compared to its electric counterpart, and the headlights show minor differences as well. Notably, the prominent "shell" hood is quite visible, which, when opened, reveals nearly the entire front section of the vehicle.

Upcoming Mini Cooper Electric Model (2024)
The rear section has been tailored to fit the U01 model, along with the cabin which features a sizable circular OLED display, often referred to as a "pizza screen." Additionally, the previously mentioned flip-out door handles are also a noteworthy aspect.
The engines have also undergone some modifications: the Cooper C features a revamped BMW B38 three-cylinder engine with 156 horsepower, while the Cooper S is equipped with a B48 four-cylinder engine that delivers 204 horsepower. A John Cooper Works model with an as-yet undisclosed amount of power is expected to be released, followed by a similarly styled "new" Mini Convertible.
Mini Five-Door Combustion Engine (2024, F65)
Mini is taking a similar approach with the "new" five-door model. The body dimensions, with a length of 4,036 mm, a width of 1,744 mm, and a height of 1,464 mm, remain virtually unchanged from the previous F55 model, including the retention of the loop-style door handles.
Upcoming 2024 Mini Cooper with Five Doors
The gasoline engines are identical to those found in the three-door F66 model, namely the Cooper C and Cooper S variants.
If you're curious about the electric version of the five-door model, it's worth noting that its predecessor didn't have one either. However, there's now an electric option with additional doors in the form of the Aceman. Known internally as J05, it too employs the platform provided by GWM.
Compact Aceman SE, slated for release in 2024
The Aceman measures in at a length of 4,070 millimeters, a width of 1,750 millimeters, and a wheelbase spanning 2,606 millimeters, which is notably more than the J01 model. However, when it comes to the powertrains and driving ranges, there are no differences to report. In terms of design, the Aceman leans towards an SUV aesthetic, complete with flush door handles. As of now, there have been no announcements or intentions to equip the Aceman with a traditional internal combustion engine.
