Lucid Air Pure Claims Title of America’s Most Efficient EV in 2025, Outperforming Tesla for Less
The 2025 Lucid Air Pure, a single-motor, RWD variant of the Air electric luxury car, maintains its status as the most range-efficient electric vehicle in America, surpassing the Tesla Model S and priced under $80,000.
On Tuesday, Lucid announced that the Air Pure has received an EPA-estimated range of 420 miles, slightly up from the previous 419-mile estimate for the 2024 model. This implies an energy efficiency of 5.0 miles per kWh, considering the Pure's 84-kWh battery, and is derived exclusively from the range figure. Additionally, Lucid anticipates the vehicle will achieve an EPA efficiency rating of 146 MPGe, which translates to roughly 4.3 miles per kWh when factoring in the EPA's combined driving cycle.
Lucid asserts that their Air Pure model requires a lower amount of electrical power to travel compared to any existing electric vehicle. This efficiency results in a smaller battery pack, which in turn diminishes the use of raw materials, cuts down on costs, and eases the burden on electricity networks during charging sessions, as highlighted in a press statement by Lucid. This serves as yet another indication that Lucid's engineering is primarily motivated by the pursuit of efficiency.
Taking into account the range of vehicles evaluated by the EPA, it stands as the top-performing vehicle in the U.S. market in terms of efficiency, regardless of the kind of fuel or propulsion system used.
When it was first released, the Air Pure came with an all-wheel-drive option. However, Lucid introduced a rear-wheel-drive model towards the end of 2023 and later phased out the all-wheel-drive variant to simplify their Air series. Earlier in the year, Lucid reduced the Air Pure's cost by $7,500, setting it at $71,400. This price will continue through 2025, ensuring that the Air Pure is priced lower than the Tesla Model S. The Model S is priced at $74,630, featuring a dual-motor all-wheel drive and can travel up to 402 miles on a single charge.

By 2025, the heat pump that was once exclusive to the Air Grand Touring and the more powerful Air Sapphire will become a standard feature for all models, aiding in mitigating the loss of driving range during colder climates. Additionally, Lucid states that all versions will be upgraded with new control systems that boast three times the computational capability and double the storage capacity.
For the 2025 model year, a more comprehensive set of driver-assist technologies will be introduced, including additions such as a 360-degree camera setup and real-time visuals for blind-spot monitoring. Additionally, the Grand Touring versions will be outfitted with a superior sound system.
For the 2025 model year, the Grand Touring with all-wheel drive sees a minor decrease in its range, going from 516 to 512 miles, yet it maintains its position as the electric vehicle with the highest range available for purchase. Its cost starts at $112,400, which is consistent with the previous year's pricing for the Pure model. The Air Touring continues to be the most affordable all-wheel-drive option in the Air lineup, offering a starting price of $80,400 and a range that reaches up to 406 miles.
