ChargePoint Unveils Omni Port: The One-Stop Charging Solution Compatible with Tesla’s NACS and CCS
ChargePoint introduces new EV charging stations compatible with Tesla's NACS and other connectors
With the automotive industry and charging infrastructure transitioning towards Tesla's NACS for rapid electric vehicle charging, ChargePoint has unveiled new equipment that accommodates both Tesla and various other plug types.
ChargePoint has announced that their new Omni Port is compatible with both NACS and CCS plugs, in addition to the standard SAE J1772 AC charging connector typically included in CCS outlets. This port will be integrated into upcoming charging stations and will also be updated in select existing stations, according to the company's recent press statement.

Motorists input their car's brand and type into the ChargePoint application and initiate the charge with a press. The station then autonomously provides the appropriate plug for the car. This echoes Tesla's approach with its Magic Dock, potentially easing the inconvenience of charging at locations that offer various plug options.
Each charging station comes equipped with integral hardware, eliminating the hassle for drivers to search for a compatible parking space for their car's charging plug, or the inconvenience of handling adapters which may be misplaced or taken. Moreover, Omni Port has received UL certification, ensuring users that they won't have to fret over the use of substandard adapters that fail to meet safety regulations.

ChargePoint has announced that Omni Port connectors are slated to start being distributed by the close of 2024. Additionally, the firm intends to upgrade its current CP6000 Level 2 AC public chargers and Express Plus Power Link 2000 DC fast chargers with these connectors, offering the service to providers at a minimal fee.
According to data from the Department of Energy's Alternative Fuels Data Center, by June 2024, ChargePoint has established a network of 62,536 charging units at 34,569 sites. Of these, 2,783 sites are equipped with DC rapid charging facilities, while 31,789 offer AC charging services. Ensuring consistent performance of these charging stations for a variety of vehicles with distinct charging connectors is expected to be difficult. However, initiating the process with uniform charging equipment could be a positive first step.
