Audi’s Final Farewell to the A5 Coupe and Cabriolet: The End of an Era for Open-Top Models
The Audi A5 Coupe and Convertible have been discontinued without successors
This means that the brand no longer offers any convertible vehicles
It's with a heavy heart that we report the reality: Audi's lineup no longer includes a convertible option. The TT Roadster and R8 have already ceased production, with the A3 Convertible having been discontinued back in 2020. Now, the time has come for the A5 Convertible to meet its end. Audi has also confirmed the termination of the A5 Coupe.
The final version of the Audi A5 Coupe was released in June 2016, followed by the convertible model in November of that same year. Both models underwent updates at the end of 2019. The coupe was produced in Ingolstadt, while the convertible rolled off the assembly line in Neckarsulm. Production is expected to continue until July 2024. The manufacturing facilities in Neckarsulm were repurposed to accommodate the production of the new series named A5, succeeding the Audi A4.

As the company plans to designate its internal combustion engine series with odd numbers and its electric vehicles with even numbers, it has introduced an A5 Avant and an A5 Sedan. The latter, with its sleek design, also takes the place of the previous A5 Sportback. BMW might likely call this a "Gran Coupé."
In the first six months of 2024, Audi successfully registered precisely 5,882 new A5 vehicles in Germany, with a notable 2,209 of those being convertible models. These aren't disappointing figures for the 4.71-meter-long A5 convertible, which had an initial price point of approximately 50,000 Euros. This price included the 35 TFSI model equipped with a 150-horsepower gasoline engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The other engines matched those found in the A5 Coupé of nearly the same length, featuring gasoline engines ranging from 204 to 450 horsepower in the RS 5, as well as two diesel options with 163 and 204 horsepower. Will we ever witness another convertible from Audi? An electric A4 Cabriolet or a battery-powered TT Roadster could be an intriguing declaration against the MG Cyberster.
Convertible models continue to represent a unique business proposition that needs to be financially viable. As a result, BMW and Mercedes are reducing their convertible line-ups. Mercedes will only offer the SL and CLE models. Volkswagen's T-Roc convertible has been given a reprieve until 2026 or 2027, after which it will be discontinued. This will leave only the more expensive options from Bentley or Lamborghini within the group.
