Alberto Puig’s Candid Take on Joan Mir’s Uncertain Future at Honda Amidst Struggles and Speculation
Alberto Puig’s straightforward evaluation of Joan Mir’s prospects with Honda
“Usually, a rider, when things aren’t going well, tends to become a bit…"
Alberto Puig asserts that he has not engaged in discussions with the dissatisfied Joan Mir regarding his future with Honda.
Since joining Repsol Honda at the beginning of last year, Mir has faced a challenging and disappointing experience.
In the past, he has talked about retiring early, and more recently, he mentioned that he plans to leave once his contract ends at the close of the year.
Repsol Honda's team manager Puig was questioned about any new information regarding Mir's future plans.
In Mugello, he responded with, "No. Typically, when a rider faces difficulties, they tend to become somewhat…"
“Obviously, we completely understand that he is dissatisfied.
"At the moment, to be honest, our entire team, including him and Luca, is concentrating on resolving the bike’s issues."
"We have yet to begin talks about renewing."
"Eventually, whether it’s this month, this summer, in June or July, we will need to make some choices."
“We will proceed from that point.”
Honda finds themselves stuck at the very end of the lineup.
Mir holds the 17th position in the MotoGP rankings following the Mugello race.
Luca Marini, who joined the team this season to take over for Marc Marquez, is facing even greater challenges than Mir.
Marini is the sole full-time racer yet to score any points this season.
Mir has been associated with a potential transfer to Trackhouse, the Aprilia satellite team managed by Davide Brivio.
During Brivio's time at Suzuki, he collaborated with Mir, who clinched the championship in 2020.
