Pedro Acosta Eyes Redemption at Emilia Romagna MotoGP After Misano Mishap
Tech3: Pedro Acosta Aims for Comeback After Misano 1 Setback
"Pedro Acosta is determined to seek retribution and will pull out all the stops to rectify the situation."
This weekend at the Emilia Romagna MotoGP, Pedro Acosta has a special opportunity to overcome the typical challenges faced by newcomers.
Since the first race in Qatar, Acosta has participated in every Grand Prix without previously knowing the MotoGP circuits.
In Lusail, he experienced it as a pre-season trial, yet at 'Misano 2,' he'll have his first real taste of qualifying and racing, along with an official test day scheduled for September 9th.
During the San Marino weekend, Acosta quickly demonstrated his speed, securing a second-row position and finishing sixth in the Sprint, although he experienced a crash in the Grand Prix. Throughout the testing phase, he maintained his competitiveness, ultimately emerging as the highest-ranked KTM rider in fourth place.
"Acosta expressed anticipation for the upcoming weekend at Misano 2, highlighting the advantage of having raced there just a week prior, which he believes will assist in optimizing the bike setup."
"The trial run at Misano on Monday was crucial for our team as we experimented with various strategies that I believe will benefit us in the upcoming season's races."
"We'll check if the weather conditions are favorable, and whether we can sustain or possibly enhance our speed from the previous weekend."
"Misano represents a circuit that I believe suits us well and gives us the opportunity to achieve high speeds. It's the final race before we embark on a crucial series of competitions in Asia, so let's give it our all!"
According to team leader Nicolas Goyon, Acosta's premature departure from the San Marino GP was due to his eagerness to pass Morbidelli, which led to him losing a wing and subsequently crashing shortly thereafter.
The oversight not only led to the young Spaniard forfeiting fifth position but also allowed Brad Binder to surpass him as the leading KTM rider in the world championship.
"Goyon mentioned that the team is returning to Misano for the Emilia Romagna round, equipped with extensive data collected from last week's race and testing session, along with improvements in parts and configurations based on those tests."
For the first time, Pedro Acosta will compete on a track where he already has experience in MotoGP, making it interesting to observe how he handles the race weekend.
"After experiencing a crash at the beginning of last Sunday's race, he failed to secure a spot in the top 5 as anticipated. It is clear that he is seeking redemption and will go to great lengths to rectify the situation."
After taking a risk with a pit stop following his crash, Acosta completed the race a lap behind. Meanwhile, his teammate, Augusto Fernandez, was unfortunate and crashed amid the rain that fell halfway through the race.
"Last week, Augusto Fernandez discovered an effective strategy for his setup, but unfortunately, he had an accident during the race when he was in the 13th position," Goyon mentioned.
"He has another opportunity to prove he's on the correct path, but achieving that requires completing the races and earning points. He possesses the capability to accomplish this, so let's get moving!"
Fernandez has teamed up with Alberto Girabola, the former crew chief for Andrea Dovizioso and Enea Bastianini. Next year, Girabola will join forces again with Bastianini at Tech3.
