Ducati Gears Up for MXGP Debut with Star Signing Jeremy Seewer for 2025 Season
Ducati confirms key rider acquisition for inaugural MXGP season
Ahead of its 2025 launch into the top tier of motocross racing, Ducati has revealed the identity of its initial MXGP competitor.
Ducati has unveiled its initial rider selection for the 2025 MXGP World Championship, securing Jeremy Seewer for a two-season contract that spans both the 2025 and 2026 competitions.
At the age of 30, Seewer is set to team up with Ducati as they make their debut in the Motocross World Championship. This collaboration marks Ducati's inaugural season in the competition, and for the Swiss competitor, it will be his eighth year competing at the highest level in the MXGP division.
Seewer's journey in MXGP was predominantly spent riding for Yamaha, a partnership that began in 2018 and concluded at the close of 2023.

The #91 rider made a move to Kawasaki for the 2024 season. Although they managed to secure two podium finishes this year and clinched a victory in the initial moto at the MXGP of Turkiye, Seewer has largely faced challenges in maintaining steady performance on the KX450F.
Having secured victory in 13 Grand Prix races, with five wins in the MX2 World Championship and eight in MXGP, Seewer's performance will effectively gauge the competitiveness of Ducati's Desmo450 MX against its rivals.
In the early part of the year, during the Netherlands MXGP event held in Arnhem, Ducati entered the MXGP scene for the first time, bringing on board Antonio Cairoli, a nine-time World Champion. Cairoli, who was brought into the Ducati team as a test rider for the Desmo450, joined the team towards the end of 2023.
Cairoli, participating in his first Grand Prix since 2021, secured a promising seventh place in the qualifying round. However, during Sunday's events, he faced a setback, finishing 15th in the first race and not finishing the second due to a mechanical problem, which resulted in an 18th place overall finish.
This year, the Desmo450 MX has made a notable appearance in the Italian Motocross Prestige MX1 Championship, securing overall wins in the latest two events at Ponte a Egola and Castliglione del Lago, with ex-Grand Prix racer Alessandro Lupino at the helm. Heading into the championship's concluding race in Faenza, scheduled for September 21-22, Lupino is at the forefront of the competition, leading the pack in the riders' standings.
