Ducati Ramps Up MXGP Ambitions with Major Signing of Jeremy Seewer for 2025 Debut
Ducati reveals key rider acquisition before debut MXGP season
Ducati has unveiled its first rider for the MXGP as it prepares to join the top-tier motocross series in 2025.
Ducati has revealed that Jeremy Seewer will be their first rider for the 2025 MXGP World Championship. Seewer has agreed to a two-year contract that includes the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
Swiss rider Seewer, age 30, is set to compete with Ducati as they enter their debut season in the Motocross World Championship. This will mark Seewer's eighth season racing in the top-tier MXGP class.
Seewer has predominantly competed in MXGP with Yamaha, beginning his journey with the team in 2018 and continuing until the conclusion of 2023.
Jeremy Seewer (@jeremyseewer91) has been announced as one of the two official Ducati riders set to compete in the 2025 MXGP World Championship on the Desmo450 MX. Rider #91 transitioned to Kawasaki for the 2024 season. Although he secured two overall podium finishes and clinched a victory in the first moto at the MXGP of Turkey, Seewer has largely faced challenges in maintaining consistent performance with the KX450F.
Having clinched victory in a Grand Prix 13 times—five in the MX2 World Championship and eight in MXGP—Seewer will serve as an excellent benchmark to evaluate the performance of Ducati’s Desmo450 MX against its rivals.
Earlier this year at the MXGP event in Arnhem, Netherlands, Ducati entered the MXGP scene for the first time with Antonio Cairoli, a nine-time World Champion. Cairoli, who was brought on by Ducati as a test rider for the Desmo450 in late 2023, marked the company's debut in the competition.
Cairoli, who previously participated in a Grand Prix in 2021, showed promise by securing seventh place in the qualifying race. However, in Sunday's two races, he ended up with a 15th place finish in the first race and did not finish (DNF) the second race due to a mechanical failure, resulting in an 18th place overall.
This year's Italian Motocross Prestige MX1 Championship has seen the Desmo450 MX achieve overall wins, with ex-Grand Prix competitor Alessandro Lupino securing victories in the latest rounds at Ponte a Egola and Castiglion del Lago. Lupino currently tops the riders' leaderboard going into the final round scheduled for September 21-22 in Faenza.
