Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg is set to exit Trackhouse Aprilia following the conclusion of the 2024 season. This confirmation came during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team after the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was originally the Petronas SRT Yamaha team during its debut in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand, and the first season under the Trackhouse name.
In a conversation with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who started with Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision to make. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore “a different direction”.
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's departure was a topic of conversation. He explained that the decision was mutually agreed upon and praised Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be truthful, when I got here, I encountered a team that he had developed over the years. Moreover, this team will largely remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. It's unfortunate in one sense, but it's just business in another."
"It’s never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
Zeelenberg's next steps remain uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, a past victor in the 250cc Grand Prix, served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the Yamaha MotoGP factory team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager.
