VW Amarok: Altes Modell erhält Facelift im Stil des Neuen – Weiterhin Zwei Generationen auf dem Markt
The older version of the VW Amarok is set to receive a facelift that mirrors the style of the latest model. The original model continues to be available in the South American market. Globally, there are two generations of the VW Amarok currently in circulation. The Amarok version tailored for Europe was launched in 2023, sharing many components with the Ford Ranger and is also manufactured in South Africa like its counterpart. The earlier model, which originated in 2010, was produced in Hannover, and continues to be assembled in Argentina for the South American markets.
Last week, Volkswagen Argentina unveiled a significant redesign at Tecnópolis. Quite literally, they've updated the front end of the old Amarok to match the appearance of the new Amarok model.

Francesco Pecchia, Head of Product Planning at VW Argentina, explained the reasons behind this to our local Motor1 colleagues:
The Amarok's second iteration, a worldwide endeavor, was born from a partnership between the parent companies of Volkswagen and Ford. The purpose of this collaboration was to foster joint efforts in the creation of electric vehicles and commercial transportation. This alliance was crafted with the global market in mind, where the market share of mid-sized pick-up trucks isn't as significant as it is in Argentina.
In our country, this particular market segment contributes to 20% of the sales and an even larger percentage in car manufacturing. We, the creators of this product, have made the choice not to join the worldwide coalition, opting to retain our pick-up truck that we've been producing since 2010. We did not want to discard 14 years of labor and progression invested in this pick-up truck that has set the standard in our market.

The concept revolves around advancing the development of this automobile, which has already established a reputation in Argentina and throughout South America. As a result, we've committed to maintaining our own vehicle where we hold complete decision-making power, independent of any alliances. This move is also influenced by the significance of this product in the local market.
In forming this partnership with Ford, our focus was more on the global market as a whole, where the mid-size pickup segment isn't as significant for Volkswagen compared to South America. We are extremely pleased and content with the work we've accomplished.
Marcellus Puig, the head of VW Argentina, unexpectedly forecasted a limited timeline for the pickup truck manufactured in Pacheco, stating, "The Amarok will sustain, it has a lifespan for the upcoming two to three years". This marks a significant revision from the earlier projection made by his predecessor: "The Amarok will continue for another ten years," assured Argentine executive Pablo Di Si in 2022, during the announcement of the vehicle's redesign.
Volkswagen's branch in Argentina has commenced the manufacturing of the latest Amarok model at the Pacheco industrial site. This launch marks the introduction of the third iteration of the popular pickup from the German automaker, which initially debuted in 2009. By the year 2023, the Amarok has captured a 29 percent share of the competitive Argentine market. Since its introduction to the market, over 740,000 units have been produced, with 65% of those being designated for exportation.
Volkswagen's iconic pick-up truck started rolling out of the Pacheco industrial center in 2009. Over 120,000 right-hand drive units were also manufactured for distribution in the markets of Oceania, Africa, and Central America.
The engine lineup remains the same, including the 2.0 Turbo Diesel with 140 horsepower and 340 Nm of torque, the 2.0 Bi-Turbo Diesel with 180 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, and the V6 3.0 Turbo Diesel offering 258 horsepower and 580 Nm of torque. The two 2.0 variants come with options for a six-speed manual transmission, an eight-speed automatic, 4×2, and 4WD systems, the latter including a reduction gearbox only with the manual. The V6 model is exclusively available with an eight-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive, which does not include a reduction gearbox.
Evaluating Pick-up Trucks:
There are ten different models to choose from. The cost varies from 38,046,500 Pesos for the Amarok 2.0 TDi Trendline 4×2 MT6 to 66,193,000 Pesos for the Amarok V6 Hero 4Motion AT8. In Euro, that's approximately 37,140 to 64,610. Each comes with a six-year warranty or covers up to 150,000 kilometers.
