Volkswagen’s Electrifying Move: VW Caddy and Caddy Cargo eHybrid Set to Power Up 2024 with Plug-In Hybrid Technology
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles introduces electrification to their lineup with the 2024 VW Caddy and Caddy Cargo eHybrid models. These plug-in hybrids boast an electric range of up to 122 kilometers. Joining the lineup of new front-wheel-drive TSI gasoline and TDI diesel engines, the Caddy and Caddy Cargo are now available as plug-in hybrids, offering business users the ability to drive with zero local emissions. Families, too, can benefit from the new passenger version Caddy eHybrid, available in both standard and the extended Maxi version, providing a partially electric driving experience tailored to their needs.
The range expands: With the introduction of the new Caddy for the 2025 model year, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is broadening its lineup. The selection now includes a plug-in hybrid option that augments the existing 2.0 TDI and 1.5 TSI engines. This new model combines a 1.5 TSI engine, enhanced to deliver 85 kW (115 hp), with an electric motor. As a result, the Caddy eHybrid, a PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle), boasts a combined power output of 110 kW (150 hp) and can generate up to 350 Newton-meters of torque.

With a usable battery capacity of 19.7 kWh, it's possible to achieve up to 122 kilometers on electric power alone. Drivers have the option, with just a tap on the screen, to choose when they want to utilize the electric range – whether that be at the start of their journey, at some point during, or to save it for purely electric travel once they reach their destination.
An automatic shift-by-wire system is responsible for transmitting power. The drive battery can be recharged at home using DC fast chargers with a capacity of up to 50 kW or AC home chargers with an 11 kW output.
The Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Caddy eHybrid achieves a top speed of 183 km/h as a passenger car, while the Cargo eHybrid variant reaches up to 181 km/h.
The 2024 Volkswagen Caddy Cargo eHybrid
The Caddy eHybrid is available as both a passenger car and a cargo vehicle. Each version can be selected with either a standard wheelbase, which offers seating for five in the passenger car and two in the cargo vehicle, or as the extended 'Maxi' variant with a longer wheelbase, which can accommodate up to seven individuals in the passenger car configuration.
Every plug-in hybrid model comes equipped with a six-speed DSG automatic transmission. This fusion of electric drive and TSI petrol engine also allows for on-demand zero-emission driving, such as in urban areas or city centers which may be subject to future driving restrictions.
All variants of the Caddy eHybrid model with a six-speed DSG automatic transmission are now available for pre-order.
Volkswagen Caddy and Caddy Cargo Hybrid Models Scheduled for 2024 Release
The latest traditional combustion engine versions of the Caddy, such as the front-wheel-drive TDI with 75 kW (102 HP), come equipped with a standard six-speed manual transmission, while the models with 90 kW (122 HP) feature a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. Additionally, the TSI Caddy, a pure gasoline model with 85 kW (115 HP), is available with either a manual or an automatic DSG transmission. These options are also open for orders.
The 2025 model year Caddy Cargo from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (VWN) will feature a host of new driver assistance systems. These will include a digital dashboard as standard. Additionally, the van will offer the option of including IDA, a voice assistant with Chat GPT capabilities.
Moving forward, all Caddy models will come standard with features including traffic sign recognition, cruise control, parking assistance, and systems to detect driver fatigue and attention levels. The cargo versions will be equipped with additional safety features such as extra side and head airbags, a multifunction camera, tire pressure monitoring, lane keeping assistance, and a front safety system with pedestrian and cyclist detection capabilities. Furthermore, the Caddy Cargo now includes a multifunction steering wheel as part of its standard equipment, a feature already present in the passenger car versions.
