Volkswagen Enthüllt die Neue T7 Transporter und Caravelle Serie für 2025: Ein Blick auf die Offiziellen Fotos und Innovativen Antriebsoptionen

on

Volkswagen has unveiled the first official images of its all-new T7 Transporter and Caravelle models, set to release in 2025. This marks the first time a VW bus will be available with a choice of diesel, plug-in hybrid, or electric engines. The new generation of VW commercial vehicles boasts a fresh design, though it's worth noting that "new" should be taken with a grain of salt. Much of the T7's design is shared with the Ford Tourneo/Transit Custom, particularly noticeable at the rear. However, Volkswagen has strived for a distinctive look at the front, reminiscent of the previous T6.1 model.

The seventh iteration of the series launches in three cargo models (station wagon, panel van, and flatbed) along with the Caravelle for passenger transport. The latest turbo diesel, plug-in hybrid, and electric engines ensure dynamic performance. There's also an optional four-wheel drive available.

It's widely recognized that the range of Bulli models is more extensive than ever before. The upcoming lineup includes the latest versions of the Transporter and Caravelle, the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo, the Multivan, and the new California.

In Germany, the launch of the new van is set for the beginning of 2025. This model will hit the market featuring significantly more standard equipment compared to the T6.1 and will be equipped with a robust 81 kW (110 horsepower) turbo diesel engine. The van will be available as a panel van starting at €36,780 and as a flatbed truck with a crew cab starting at €39,130, both prices excluding tax. All customers purchasing the van will benefit from a guaranteed fixed price until the vehicle is delivered next year.

Volkswagen is introducing its latest transporter model in various configurations: as a Panel Van (dedicated cargo space), Panel Van Plus (cargo area with an additional row of seats for mixed cargo and passenger transport), Combi (designed for passenger transport), and the Crew Cab (flatbed construction with an extended wheelbase), which distinguishes it from its Ford counterpart. Both the Combi and Panel Van have options for a high roof and an extended wheelbase.

The more upscale Caravelle, designed with nine seats for commercial passenger transport, serves as an ideal shuttle and spacious taxi. Consumers can expect to find the Caravelle in a basic model, an intermediate trim named "Life," and the high-end "Style" variant. Additionally, an option for an extended wheelbase version of the Caravelle is available.

Additionally, the PanAmericana is on its way. Featuring a rugged off-road design and unique luxury features, this indomitable van will be available in the new generation, built on the framework of both the Transporter and the Caravelle.

Powertrains

Expanded range of powertrains: Alongside the latest turbocharged diesel engines (TDI), both vehicle models will be available with plug-in hybrid and purely electric power options. During the ongoing pre-sale period, customers can choose from three power levels of the new TDI engines, producing 81 kW (110 hp), 110 kW (150 hp), and 125 kW (170 hp).

Customers can now also place orders for the newly developed plug-in hybrid powertrain (eHybrid), which delivers a total output of 171 kW (232 horsepower). Soon to be released are three electric powertrains with different power ratings: 100 kW (136 horsepower), 160 kW (218 horsepower), and 210 kW (286 horsepower), all equipped with a net battery capacity of 64 kWh.

Additionally, there will be an electric variant designed with lower power and a smaller battery, tailored for city-based delivery services. The TDI and eHybrid models will feature front-wheel drive. For the TDI models with power starting at 110 kW, there is an option to include the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. The purely electric versions will have rear-wheel drive, with plans for an all-wheel-drive option to be introduced later on. The 125-kW TDI comes standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while this is an optional feature for the 110-kW TDI. Automatic transmission is mandatory for both the plug-in hybrid and electric models.

Interior

The seventh generation now initiates with a push of a button next to the digital 12-inch instrument cluster and the 13-inch screen for the entertainment system, foregoing the traditional key start. The standard steering wheel comes with neatly arranged buttons for various functions. Volume control for the entertainment system can be done through the steering wheel or a traditional rotary knob. The manual handbrake lever has been eliminated in favor of a switch for the parking brake located in the center console.

Also new is the compact steering column gear selector for automatic models, which allows for improved access to the cargo or passenger area. The front console boasts large cupholders (depending on the configuration) along with additional beverage holders and convenient storage compartments on the upper dashboard, making everyday tasks easier. True to the Bulli style, it features a tall, clear dashboard, elevated seating, and an ergonomically arranged set of controls.

Dimensions

The latest model of the van has an increased length of 5,050 mm, which is 146 mm more than the T6.1. The distance between the wheels has also been extended by 97 mm, resulting in a wheelbase of 3,100 mm. An extended wheelbase version is available as well, adding another 400 mm, making the total length 5,450 mm. The van's width has been expanded by 128 mm compared to previous models, measuring 2,032 mm (excluding the side mirrors). The space between wheel arches has grown by 148 mm to a total of 1,392 mm, allowing for the easy accommodation of Euro pallets, as stated by VW.

The cargo area length on the floor of the standard wheelbase van measures 2,602 millimeters, an increase of 61 millimeters; with an extended wheelbase, the cargo area length extends to 3,002 millimeters. Thanks to the additional length, width, and wheelbase, VW has significantly expanded the cargo capacity of the van: The largest storage volume for the standard wheelbase models now stands at 5.8 cubic meters.

Volkswagen Transporter Model for the Year

Models featuring an extended wheelbase and a high roof will have the capacity to carry up to 9.0 cubic meters. The van is configurable with as many as six passenger seats and comes with options for different partition walls.

Power Supply in the Interior

A variety of interfaces are available to power electronic devices, including USB-A, USB-C, and 12V outlets, with the option to add outlets for 230V devices. In diesel models, the 230V outlet is always located at the driver's seat base. The electric transporter can also be equipped with two additional outlets near the D-pillars upon request. The total output of the 230V system can reach up to 2,300 watts, ensuring there's a suitable power source for any device, from laptops to circular saws.

Cargo Capacity and Towing Limit

The latest model of this transporter is designed to fit into standard parking garages with ease, thanks to its height being less than 2.0 meters (with a standard roof). Additionally, its tight turning circle of just 11.8 meters (with a standard wheelbase) allows it to navigate sharp corners effortlessly during maneuvering.

Additionally, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has ensured that this professional-grade automotive tool can carry a weight that matches its volumetric loading capacity: The maximum payload reaches up to 1.33 tons. Should that not suffice, depending on the model, the latest generation of Transporters can tow trailers weighing up to 2.8 tons to the required destination—a step up from the previous generation's 2.5-ton limit.

Ausstattungserweiterung

Additionally, the vehicle features a multi-function steering wheel, a keyless ignition system known as "Keyless Start", a rain sensor, a lane-keeping assistant named "Lane Assist", an emergency brake system referred to as "Front Assist", and a traffic sign recognition capability. The panel van now also comes standard with a partition. Meanwhile, the combi model, which is equipped with rear windows, is distinguished by having three individual seats in the second row and an audio system that includes six speakers instead of the standard four.

Exploring the Caravelle in Depth

The Caravelle, as Volkswagen themselves state (specifically using "der" not "die"), comes standard with nine seats, making it an ideal choice for a spacious taxi or shuttle service. Even the base model includes a standard feature of a removable three-seat bench in the third row, accommodating a total of nine passengers. Distinguishing features that set the Caravelle apart from the transporter models include upgraded seat fabrics, side and curtain airbags in the cab, and a ten-speaker audio system.

The Life trim level offers an enhanced experience with color-coordinated bumpers, mirror casings, and door handles that match the vehicle's exterior. It also includes air conditioning, armrests for the driver's seat, a height-adjustable passenger seat with lumbar support and armrests, unique interior decorations, three extra USB ports in the passenger area, and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The Caravelle Style can be identified from the outside by its distinctive front end which features a dark crossbar that includes an integrated chrome strip. This chrome detail extends into the standard LED matrix headlights of this model, which also incorporate cornering and adverse weather lighting. Additional features of the Caravelle Style compared to the Life version include LED tail lights with a customized light signature, tinted rear windows for privacy, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

The intentional resemblance of the new transporter to the Multivan (on the right) is quite evident. It's clear to see that the transporter has a significantly taller build.

Also included as standard are the "Keyless Access" electronic locking and starting system, electrically foldable exterior mirrors, two-tone artificial leather seats, unique interior applications, a multifunctional leather steering wheel, a sizable center console with cup holders, a three-zone automatic climate control with an additional control unit for the rear (in the headliner), and sun blinds in the second row of seats. For an additional cost, the Caravelle can be further enhanced with features such as a large panoramic roof and a Harman Kardon sound system equipped with 14 speakers (including a subwoofer).

Exploring the "PanAmericana" in Depth

Built for the most demanding tasks, the fourth iteration of this utility vehicle, introduced in 2001, could be outfitted with a special PanAmericana package. By its fifth generation, the PanAmericana transformed into a unique, exclusive model with a cult following. Given this context, it was a given that Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles would present the newly unveiled seventh generation of the series with a PanAmericana option. This offering is paired with both the panel van versions and the Caravelle.

Volkswagen's 2025 Model of the Transporter PanAmericana

The new PanAmericana's exterior is characterized by its rugged all-terrain side sills and wheel arch claddings, grained bumpers capable of withstanding impacts, and a painted radiator grille. Additionally, a protective film covers the lower part of the tailgate or the rear wing doors.

Upon entering, this van welcomes the driver and passengers with illuminated stainless steel inlays for the door sills, glossy black accents on the dashboard, and chrome door handles. Also unique are the exclusive seat fabrics featuring the PanAmericana logo stitched into the backrests, complemented by color-coordinated contrasting seams.

Options for Transportation Alternatives:

The Caravelle PanAmericana comes standard with the latest "Indianapolis" style 19-inch alloy wheels (in black with polished surfaces); these wheels are available as an option for the Transporter PanAmericana. The optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive system is a perfect match for the character and range of applications of both PanAmericana models.
