**Title:** Honda’s Persistent MotoGP Struggles: Puig and Riders Reflect on Rain-Hampered Mugello Test and Search for Solutions
Honda continues to face challenges in MotoGP, despite introducing numerous new components. Alberto Puig has acknowledged that they are "still looking for solutions."
In 2024, Honda's difficulties in MotoGP have been a major topic of discussion, with ongoing challenges sparking speculation that Joan Mir might consider retiring from racing.
A rain-interrupted test session at Mugello on Monday added to the challenges. Honda Team Manager Alberto Puig shared with MotoGP.com: "We are still looking for solutions, but it's also a fact that we are trying out a wide variety of components and conducting numerous tests."
Typically, attempting a variety of solutions indicates that you haven't yet found a definitive answer to your issues, which is why you encounter numerous details and components.
"We're utilizing our existing test team and the allowances we have, which is why we're introducing numerous new elements to evaluate their performance."
In Mir's second year with Honda, his experience has been even more challenging than his initial season with the Japanese team alongside Marc Marquez.
The 2020 MotoGP champion has experienced numerous crashes, with the latest incident occurring at the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello last Sunday.
Commenting on the post-race test, Mir mentioned: "Clearly, we had to significantly alter our plans since it wasn't an ideal day for testing."
"We headed out early and managed to complete both dry and wet laps."
"There haven't been many opportunities to practice in wet conditions this season, so this was a chance to fine-tune our setup for such scenarios."
"It wasn't a completely unproductive day; we managed to advance somewhat in the rainy conditions, but in the dry weather, significant progress eluded us."
In the Honda factory garage, Luca Marini is experiencing a sluggish transition to the RC213V.
Although Mugello is a local circuit for the Italian racer, the ex-Ducati competitor found himself trailing at the end of the pack once more during the grand prix.
Similar to Mir, Marini managed to test out some new components even though the one-day test was significantly affected by rain.
"The rainy weather wasn't ideal, but it was still beneficial to test the bike in wet conditions since we need to make progress in that aspect," Marini commented.
"Ultimately, it was a fascinating day, and we got the chance to experiment with some new features on the motorcycle."
"We now have the opportunity to thoroughly examine all aspects and comprehend the entire strategy moving forward."
"The entire team is putting in significant effort and making great strides. Although there is still more to accomplish, we are making good progress."
