Thrills and Spills: Brad Binder’s High-Octane Weekend and Jack Miller’s Near Miss at Aragon MotoGP
Brad Binder exclaimed, "I managed to do another rolling burnout!" Meanwhile, Jack Miller commented on being overtaken by Rins. Binder also mentioned, "I devised a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the season started in Qatar, securing 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
This happened even though he spun out at the start of both races, and despite this, he still managed to secure a seventh-place finish on the less obstructed side of a messy starting lineup.
During the middle part of the race, Binder followed rookie Pedro Acosta, and this pursuit turned into a fight for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained slightly beyond grasp.
Binder smiled as he recounted his strategy from the previous night, explaining that he aimed to avoid spinning out at the start and executed another rolling burnout similar to the one he did the day before.
"I was able to navigate through and overtake several racers. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating while trailing others until the final segment of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners since I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired, and by the end, the left side of the tire was completely worn out."
"I made every effort to overtake Pedro, but there was absolutely no room left behind him!"
"Besides that, we took several positive strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Fellow racer Jack Miller had a strong start, moving up from 15th place on the grid to eighth place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly faced issues with rear tire traction.
Following a last-lap defeat to Alex Rins for the ninth position, he, along with two other riders, was penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tyre pressure issues, resulting in his drop to 15th place.
"That was a lengthy race," Miller remarked. "The track conditions varied once more; it's been quite dirty throughout the weekend, but today it felt even more slippery."
"I gave it my all. It was tough to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I had a major highside incident coming out of the final turn."
"I found my groove and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the tire's edge to its center, but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We'll continue to work hard."
"Thrilled to finish in the top ten, although Rins managed to overtake me on the back straight during the final lap. I was giving it my all to stay precise, but a poor acceleration allowed him to pass me down the stretch."
“We will return to Misano.”
KTM's lineup will increase to five riders this weekend with the addition of test rider Pol Espargaro as a wild-card entry.
"Next, we head to Misano, keeping in mind the upcoming test and Pol's wildcard entry, which will be beneficial for us moving forward," stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial race of the Misano MotoGP series is set to begin with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, as Acosta currently stands in fifth place in the world championship.
Miller, who may be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, currently sits in 15th place, trailing Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
