Thrilling Aragon GP: Brad Binder’s Burnout Struggles and Jack Miller’s Tight Battle with Rins
Brad Binder exclaimed, "I found myself doing a rolling burnout again!" Meanwhile, Jack Miller mentioned, "Rins managed to get past me." Brad Binder also added, "I had come up with a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder achieved his best weekend in MotoGP since the season began in Qatar, securing 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
This happened even though he veered off course in both races, managing to secure seventh place on the less cluttered part of a messy starting lineup.
Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta during the middle portion of the race, a duel that turned into a fight for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained just beyond reach.
"I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start, and just like yesterday, I did another rolling burnout!" Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated through and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating behind others until the final stretch of the race."
"I attempted to gain time when coming out of the turns since I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front tire overheating. Unfortunately, this strategy backfired, and by the end, the left side of the tire was completely worn out."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but my rear tires were completely worn out!"
"Besides that, we took several encouraging strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, a member of the team, had a powerful start, moving from 15th position on the grid to 8th by the conclusion of the first lap. However, it wasn't long before the Australian rider faced difficulties with rear tire traction.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins on the final lap and finishing in ninth place, he was later penalized along with two other riders for having incorrect tire pressure, resulting in an additional 16 seconds being added to his race time and ultimately placing him in 15th position.
“It was quite a lengthy race,” remarked Miller. “The track conditions varied once more; it’s been dirty for most of the weekend, but today it felt especially slippery.”
“I gave it my all. The [medium] rear tire was difficult to manage, and I experienced a major highside incident while exiting the final corner.”
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges transitioning from the outer to the central part of the tire… but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I had a hard time keeping up with the guys ahead. We'll keep working hard."
"Thrilled to finish in the top ten, but Rins managed to overtake me on the back straight during the last lap. I tried my best to be accurate, but I didn't get good acceleration and he was able to pass me."
"We will return to Misano."
KTM's racing team will have a total of five riders this weekend, as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
"Next, head to Misano while also preparing for the subsequent test and Pol's wildcard entry, which will provide us with valuable assistance moving forward," stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The initial Misano MotoGP race will kick off with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, as Acosta currently ranks fifth in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, currently sits in 15th place, just three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
