Tesla Model X Recall Alert: Roof Trim May Detach on Early Production Vehicles
Tesla issues a recall for 9,136 of its Model X electric sports utility vehicles due to potential roof trim detachment. The recall affects early production models and aims to address improperly adhered trim pieces that might separate from the vehicle.
The NHTSA has announced that Tesla Model X cars produced from the beginning of their manufacture up to July 31, 2016, are subject to a recall. This decision comes after a supplier altered their assembly procedure. The specific concern leading to the recall of the older models is that two decorative elements—one located near the windshield and the other situated at the junction of the upper glass parts of the vehicle's distinctive "Falcon doors"—might not have been installed correctly.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the bonding of the trim parts might deteriorate if they were installed without a primer layer underneath the urethane adhesive. This could result in the trim detaching from the car eventually, posing a possible danger to other drivers on the road. However, Tesla has not reported any incidents or injuries connected to this issue.
Tesla, which had initially addressed this problem with a recall on November 17, 2020, discovered that the methods used to inspect the vehicles were insufficient. Consequently, the car manufacturer will once more request that clients take their vehicles to service facilities for a thorough examination of the trim components. Should replacements be required, they will be provided at no additional cost.

Tesla has successfully executed multiple recalls through remote software updates. However, problems related to physical components, such as the recent case at hand or the earlier recalls involving the Tesla Cybertruck, necessitate a trip to a service center for resolution.
Tesla is set to start sending out alert letters to vehicle owners on October 14, 2024. Until then, owners can get in touch with Tesla's customer support at 1-877-798-3752 to learn more. The recall's identification code within Tesla is SB-24-12-008.
