Tesla Cybertruck Goes ‘Apocalypse Ready’: New Upgrades for Defense and Beyond

The Tesla Cybertruck gets an "end-of-the-world" upgrade with a generator mounted in the front trunk.

A wilder iteration of the Tesla Cybertruck has now emerged.

Last Friday, the defense company Archimedes Defense and UP.FIT, a branch of Tesla modification specialist Unplugged Performance, unveiled their new "apocalypse-proof" Sting options for the Cybertruck. These enhancements are designed primarily for military and defense purposes, transforming the Cybertruck into a vehicle capable of tackling any terrain. The statement also mentioned that these upgrades would be available for non-military consumers.

The improvements are an extension of the Invincible enhancements UP.FIT revealed right after the 2023 launch of the Cybertruck. So far, they have described three Sting bundles. Archimedes has stated they will start accepting advance orders for these enhanced Cybertrucks, though they have not disclosed any pricing details.

The foundational Sting Baja option includes Starlink internet service, which is another venture under Tesla's CEO Elon Musk, featuring the satellite dish positioned in the truck's cargo area. A high-voltage AMP Drive G125 generator is installed in the front trunk, reportedly operating on various fuels such as jet fuel, JP-8, diesel, and biodiesel. This generator has the capacity to produce up to 125 kilowatts of power, sufficient to charge the Cybertruck or other electric vehicles. It comes equipped with a standard NACS charging cable and includes adapters for electric vehicles that have different connectors. However, there were no images provided of either the adapters or the generator installed in the front trunk.

The Sting Protector kit includes an additional layer of steel armor that can be attached. It's designed to resist impacts from a 7.62 mm assault rifle. During the unveiling of the Cybertruck, Musk boasted that the electric vehicle could withstand gunfire. This particular protection package can be installed independently of the Sting Baja package, which includes a generator.

The Sting APC elevates its protective capabilities with enhanced bolt-on steel and ceramic plating, offering resistance against IEDs and mines. Archimedes Defense states that the advanced armor is capable of resisting impacts from 14.5 mm caliber heavy machine gun fire.

UP.FIT revealed a law enforcement edition of the Cybertruck in June. The following month, the Irvine Police Department declared they are set to receive a Cybertruck to add to their vehicle lineup soon.
