Rivian’s Roadmap Revealed: Five New Electric Vehicles and a Volkswagen Partnership on the Horizon
Rivian gave a sneak peek at five upcoming electric models during a presentation for investors on June 26, where they discussed Volkswagen Group's potential investment of as much as $5 billion for a tech collaboration.
Corey Cantor of Bloomberg unveiled an image displaying various automobiles, with a few concealed, arranged into four groups aligning with the platforms intended for the vehicles.
The first generation category lists Rivian's existing models: the R1S SUV, the R1T pickup, as well as the delivery van specifically designed for Amazon.
The second-generation column signifies the enhanced framework that Rivian unveiled recently with the latest models of the R1S and R1T set to debut in the 2025 lineup. It's a reasonable speculation that the enigmatic entry under the Gen 2 category is a refreshed model of the commercial van.

The middle column pertains to a framework that Rivian calls the MSP, an abbreviation for "Midsize platform." This foundational structure will be used for their future R2 crossover and the R3/R3X hatchback models, and pictures of these cars are displayed in the MSP section of the presentation. Additionally, there's a covered vehicle presented whose model is not disclosed. It could potentially be a more compact pickup truck built on this platform or perhaps a tinier vehicle intended for business use.
In a shocking revelation, Rivian unveils a platform aimed at the budget-conscious mass market. This segment features three veiled vehicles, with their specific models yet to be disclosed.
Rivian has announced that their R2 crossover will begin at $45,000, suggesting that the upcoming R3 series might be even more budget-friendly. Rivian seems to be positioning itself to introduce electric vehicles within a price range that could rival Tesla's more economical options, which Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has suggested could start around $25,000.
Later today, Rivian plans to conduct another presentation for its investors, during which it might reveal more details about the unidentified vehicles.
