Ram 1500 REV Electric Truck Targets 500-Mile Range: A 2025 Game-Changer in the EV Pickup Race

Ram is setting its sights on a long-haul capability with its forthcoming electric truck, the 2025 Ram 1500 REV, targeting a 500-mile range upon its release later this year.

The upcoming Ram 1500 REV, set for release in 2025, is targeting to outperform competitors such as the Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, Rivian R1T, and Tesla Cybertruck by offering a driving distance of up to 500 miles, thanks to its large-scale battery.

Ram has yet to disclose the complete details. However, it's confirmed that the Ram 1500 REV will utilize the Stellantis STLA Frame platform, specifically designed for electric vehicles, tailored here for a body-on-frame model such as a large pickup. The default battery integrated into the chassis is a 168-kWh unit, which Ram suggests could provide a maximum travel distance of roughly 350 miles. There will also be an option for a larger 229-kWh battery, which Ram predicts could extend the Ram 1500 REV's driving range to about 500 miles.

The upcoming Ram 1500 REV will have the ability to rapidly charge using direct current (DC) at a maximum of 350 kilowatts. According to Ram, this feature allows the addition of approximately 110 miles of driving distance in roughly 10 minutes, and this applies to any battery size. The vehicle will also support two-way charging, although Ram has not provided details on this capability. Additionally, the truck features a set of outlets located in the cargo area capable of delivering up to 7.2 kilowatts of power, and there's an outlet in the storage area at the front of the truck that can supply up to 3.6 kilowatts.

Ram has announced that its 1500 REV electric truck will have the highest towing capacity in the electric pickup category, capable of pulling up to 14,000 pounds. Additionally, it will have a payload capacity that can handle up to 2,700 pounds.

Thus far, the company has only revealed a two-motor setup that powers all four wheels, capable of producing a maximum of 654 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque. These motors are housed in a unit with integrated inverters, and the system allows for the disconnection of the front motor from the axle to enhance efficiency. Ram has indicated that the vehicle's regenerative braking system will be sufficient to permit driving with just one pedal. Additionally, an option for an electronic locking differential at the rear will be offered. The Ram 1500 REV boasts the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and has the capability to traverse water up to 24 inches deep.

Revealed for the first time in February at the Super Bowl, the electric version of the Ram pickup truck will maintain a similar appearance to its combustion engine counterparts. The most notable change is the sealed front grille, designed to improve aerodynamics and accommodate a front trunk, or 'frunk'. The truck's LED daytime running lights merge towards the center of the front panel, while the back lights stretch onto the tailgate. Aside from wheels and minor trim details, there's not much to visually set the electric variant apart from the traditional gas model. Spotting the difference between the two on the streets will require a sharp eye. To enhance aerodynamics, Ram has equipped the underside of the 1500 REV with flat panels. Ram has announced that the 1500 REV achieves a drag coefficient of 0.34.

The narrative remains consistent on the inside. The interior features mirror those found in the combustion engine version, with the exception of some digital indicators that monitor the electric truck's charging levels, battery life, and drivetrain status. The instrumental panel and controls are also retained from the traditional fuel model. This is hardly a disadvantage as the Ram 1500 boasts the most luxurious cabin one can purchase in a pickup, complete with options such as a sprawling 14.0-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10.3-inch screen for the front passenger, all enveloped in sumptuous leather, elevating it to the echelons of a high-end vehicle.

Ram has not disclosed the length of the bed or the available dimensions, however, the front trunk provides 15 cubic feet of storage capacity.

The release of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV will precede that of its counterpart, the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, which features an extended range.
