Quartararo Dispels Money Motivation Rumors, Eyes Long-Term Success with Yamaha Amidst MotoGP Salary Buzz
Fabio Quartararo addresses allegations of remaining with Yamaha due to financial incentives
It is believed that Fabio Quartararo tops the salary charts among MotoGP competitors
Fabio Quartararo has refuted claims that financial incentives were the reason behind his decision to remain with Yamaha.
The reigning champion of the 2021 MotoGP season secured a multi-year contract extension with his underperforming team earlier this year.
With an annual income of €12 million, he is believed to be the top-earning competitor in MotoGP currently.
Quartararo was queried about how much the speculation that his decision to re-sign with Yamaha was primarily for financial gains troubled him.
"I've stayed for a specific reason, which I've already mentioned, so it only slightly bothers me," he revealed to AS.
"The reason stems from the ongoing project and the methods employed by the individuals at Yamaha."
"Indeed, economics plays a minor role in all the positive developments I've observed, which go beyond mere promises."
Yamaha's initiative aims to recapture the golden era of its past through a sustained effort.
Quartararo is aware that the solution won't be immediate.
"We're short on time. We require twelve months," he stated.
"Starting early next year, I believe we will find ourselves in a new situation compared to the present."
"We'll soon return to conversing like before, without worrying if we can advance to Q2 or do so more frequently than currently."
Quartararo was queried on whether the amendments to the rules set for 2027 pose challenges for Yamaha in their strategy to evolve a motorcycle for the two years leading up to it.
"He mentioned that considering the amount of funding being poured into Yamaha, it's not something we should be concerned about."
Moreover, my agreement doesn't extend to 2027.
"I think Yamaha aims to make a comeback in the near future and maintain their position over the long haul."
Today, Yamaha's sole consolation lies in the fact that their motorcycle is not the least competitive on the track.
This distinction belongs to Honda, who are consistently trailing behind and encounter a similarly tough task in reclaiming their former successes.
Quartararo expressed, "Personally, the idea of outperforming Honda doesn't concern me at all."
"What's the reason for wanting to check on the individual behind you?"
"I value what we share. The opinions of others don't concern me."
"It's essential to focus on those ahead rather than those trailing behind."
