Porsche Expands EV Charging Access with ChargePoint Integration in My Porsche App
On Thursday, Porsche revealed a partnership with ChargePoint in the United States, integrating the service's charging stations into its My Porsche application, set to commence in the fourth quarter of the current year.
Porsche announces that, through the integration of their app and Porsche Charging Service, users will have access to over 86,000 compatible charging points. This extensive network encompasses the rapid CCS DC charging stations ideal for long-distance travel as well as the J1772 AC charging stations, commonly used for daily charging needs or installed by homeowners.
Porsche owners utilizing these communal charging stations can enjoy the convenience of consolidated billing, with all charges managed under one account—a trend that's gaining popularity among manufacturers to enhance the ownership experience.
The Alternative Fuels Data Center of the Department of Energy reveals that ChargePoint has an extensive network with 62,536 charging units spread over 34,569 spots. The details indicate that there are 2,783 spots equipped with DC fast-charging facilities and 31,789 spots that offer destination charging services.
Porsche Macan Electric Vehicle plugged into a ChargePoint charging station
The head of Porsche's operations in North America, Timo Resch, described the decision to partner with ChargePoint as aptly timed in anticipation of the launch of the latest Taycan at Porsche dealerships this summer and the brand-new electric Macan later in the year.
Certainly, the updated 2025 Porsche Taycan offers an extended driving range while maintaining quick charging times of less than 20 minutes for a 10-80% charge, particularly when using a 350-kw CCS charging point. Moreover, the Macan electric SUV utilizes the same 800-volt charging technology and has a starting price of $80,450.
The 2024 model of the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT will come with
Porsche, a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, declared in December its plans to adopt the Tesla-influenced NACS standard in its upcoming North American product lineup beginning in 2025.
In a statement made on Thursday, Porsche confirmed its ongoing efforts to develop adapter options for its current vehicles to tap into Tesla's Supercharger stations, with a target to start this process by the first half of 2025. The urgency of this project for Porsche is not paramount; as highlighted by Green Car Reports, owners of the Porsche Taycan may not experience optimal charging speeds using Tesla's Supercharger V3 stations, and the deployment of the new V4 stations, which are designed for even higher voltage charging, has been progressing at a sluggish pace.
