Polestar 3 Electric SUV Commences Production in the US Amidst Software Delays
Production of the Polestar 3 electric SUV commences in America
Following a hold-up, the assembly of the midsize electric Polestar 3 SUV has commenced at the Volvo facility located in the vicinity of Charleston, South Carolina. This development signals the imminent initiation of deliveries to customers within the United States. The SUV is being produced alongside the Volvo EX90, which has been rolling out of the same plant since June.
Polestar 3 vehicles constructed in the United States are set to be available for purchase within the country and across Europe. Additionally, the manufacturing of the Polestar 3 takes place at the Volvo facility in Chengdu, China, with the initial units having been produced in February.
The initiation of manufacturing in Chengdu, initially scheduled for the last part of 2023, has been postponed because of complications with the software. These technical problems have similarly affected the launch timeline for the 2025 EX90's production. It is worth noting that previews of both SUV models were available as far back as autumn 2022.
The two SUVs utilize Volvo's SPA2 framework, which was initially designed for electric vehicles. The Polestar model is equipped with two rows of seating, while the Volvo model includes an additional third row.

In the United States, the Polestar 3 is equipped with a two-motor electric system that provides 489 horsepower normally, and an optional Performance Pack boosts that to 517 horsepower. The standard model can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, while the Performance Pack model shaves that down to 4.6 seconds. Both versions have a maximum speed of 130 mph.
The only battery present is a 111-kwh capacity battery which Polestar predicts can provide a maximum of 315 miles of range according to EPA evaluations.

Reservations for the Polestar 3 can now be made, and the starting price in the United States is set at $74,800, which encompasses an additional fee of $1,400 for delivery.
Polestar is currently manufacturing the 4 compact crossover in China, but with the intention of dodging high import duties for entry into the U.S. market, the company intends to initiate production in South Korea by mid-2025. Due to a free-trade deal, the South Korean-produced Polestar 4s will not be subject to any import taxes.
