Neuer MG HS (2024): Umfangreiche Modernisierung für den preiswerten SUV – Mehr Platz und Reichweite im Fokus
The 2024 MG HS undergoes a major overhaul: Economy SUV experiences significant growth
Updated design, increased interior space, still available as gasoline and plug-in hybrid (with extended range)
Up until recently, private buyers could only purchase the MG HS as a plug-in hybrid. Those who preferred the gasoline version had to place a commercial order. If you're not familiar with the HS, it's a 4.61-meter-long SUV that was available as a PHEV starting at an affordable price of 38,990 euros. Now, at Goodwood, the Chinese manufacturers have unveiled a revamped model that more closely resembles a complete renovation.
At first glance, the new HS has undergone significant visual changes that distinguish it from its predecessors. Notably, it features a completely redesigned grille inspired by the MG 3, along with updated front and rear lights. The vehicle has also increased in size but has a lower profile, which contributes to a more athletic overall look. Compared to the previous model, the new MG HS is 14 mm wider (measuring 1,890 mm), 45 mm longer (4,655 mm), and roughly 30 mm lower in height. Additionally, the wheelbase has been extended by 45 mm to 2,765 mm. As for storage, the trunk capacity has expanded by 44 liters, providing a minimum of 507 liters of space.
As before, MG is incorporating a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine delivering 169 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque, or a 1.5-liter plug-in hybrid that combines a 142 horsepower petrol engine with a 209 horsepower electric motor. The former can be paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.4 seconds.

The hybrid vehicle shows increased agility, achieving 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 6.8 seconds. The battery's capacity has been boosted to 24.7 kWh and is supported by a 67-kW generator when necessary. According to the manufacturer, the MG HS PHEV now offers an electric-only range of over 100 kilometers and promises a total driving range of up to 1,000 kilometers.
Inside, your gaze is met with a fresh three-spoke steering wheel and a pair of standard 12.3-inch screens. MG states that the display facing the driver presents three unique modes. Each mode has a distinct layout, focusing on either navigation, key driving data, or a real-time representation of the vehicle and its surroundings, including driver assistance systems.
The vehicle's entertainment system includes a screen that displays real-time navigation with current weather updates and traffic reports, and provides access to Amazon Music. There's also compatibility with smartphones through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Moreover, the car comes in two trim levels, Comfort and Luxury. The Luxury versions come standard with a new 360-degree camera and a wireless smartphone charging feature.
The new MG HS and MG HS PHEV are scheduled to launch in the fall of 2024. Pricing has yet to be determined.
