Neuer Honda Civic RS 2024: Exklusiver Fahrspaß mit Schaltgetriebe und Performance-Upgrades in Japan
Honda Civic RS (2024): A Sporty Hatchback with Manual Transmission
It features a host of mechanical enhancements
While in the U.S., the 1.5-liter turbo is available in the Civic Si sedan, in Germany, the Civic has largely transitioned to a hybrid-only lineup, aside from the Type R, of course. However, in Japan, the model range is notably different, offering the spirited gasoline engine in the hatchback version as well.
Japanese consumers now have even more reasons to be excited as they are set to receive a new Civic RS model equipped with a manual transmission and various mechanical enhancements.
In addition to a third pedal, the RS model is equipped with a rev-matching feature and a lighter flywheel. Honda guarantees a significantly improved throttle response for a more engaging driving experience.
Additional enhancements include larger front brakes, a more rigid steering linkage for sharper steering response, and a firmer suspension setup that lowers the vehicle by 5 millimeters.
Honda has upgraded the Civic RS, which is only available in Japan, with new shock absorbers and bushings. On the exterior, the vehicle is distinguishable by its black 18-inch wheels, red RS badges, and a redesigned front bumper. Additionally, all the chrome has been swapped out for black detailing.
Inside, there's a glimpse of red stitching and a delightfully compact leather-and-aluminum gear shift knob. Adding a little extra to the "Warm Hatch," Honda has included both a sports mode and an individual driving mode.
It seems that the Civic RS may not quite match up to the Civic Si, which is also not available in our region, yet it's definitely a disappointment that we won't be getting this sportily enhanced version. Nowadays, it's become extremely rare to see a manual transmission, complete with rev-matching, and performance tweaks in an average compact car that doesn't boast 400 horsepower and come with a steep price tag.
Some of you might recall that the Civic RS was initially showcased as a prototype at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year. At that time, there was speculation that it might come with a more powerful 200 horsepower version of the 1.5-liter turbo, however, that hasn't happened. It's equipped with 182 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque – which, incidentally, is precisely what the previous 1.5-liter Civic model delivered.
The Civic RS has been part of the lineup in some markets for several years, but it lacked the mechanical upgrades that the new model features.
