While for many, the option is limited to playing straightforward casual games, for instance through the provider Airconsole, Mercedes is now raising the bar by partnering with Boosteroid, a cloud-gaming platform that offers not just indie games but also a selection of high-end Triple-A titles.

Starting next year, Mercedes plans to team up with service provider Boosteroid to incorporate their gaming app into the "MBUX Entertainment Package Plus."
"In collaboration with Boosteroid, we're enhancing the gaming experience in our Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The cloud-based strategy is the perfect way to provide our clients and gaming enthusiasts with access to top-tier gaming," says Magnus Östberg, Chief Software Officer at Mercedes-Benz.
To keep oneself entertained during a break, the selection offered by the cloud gaming service includes both fan favorites and critically acclaimed video games such as GTA V, Hogwarts Legacy, Red Dead Redemption 2, Elden Ring, long-standing hits like Fortnite, Roblox, Among Us, and Rocket League, as well as indie gems like Stardew Valley and Slay the Spire.
Subscribers can access the games through a membership plan, which is not limited to use in a car. The Boosteroid app can also be accessed on a PC, laptop, smartphone, or smart TV. Additionally, it can be paired with a controller.
Currently, the Boosteroid application is undergoing beta testing and is expected to be accessible in Europe, North America, and South America by 2025. Previously, the relatively fresh idea faced numerous technical challenges, leading to the discontinuation of services by platforms such as Magenta Gaming or Google Stadia shortly after their introduction.
Would you prefer to drive rather than play video games?
Since cloud gaming involves streaming games from a server to the user's device instead of installing them locally, issues such as interruptions or lag in gameplay frequently arise due to varying bandwidths. This is attributed to the substantial amount of data that needs to be transferred to the player.
Currently, even well-established market players like Microsoft are struggling with these issues with their Xbox Cloud service. Whether Mercedes and Boosteroid will manage to overcome these challenges can be seen this week at Gamescom in Cologne by trying it in an E-Class, or at the latest by 2025.
