Mercedes Shines at Pebble Beach with Maybach Revelations and Resurrected Classics
Mercedes shines at Pebble Beach
And it finally wobbles again…
Mercedes-Benz has consistently marked the Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach as a key event to showcase not merely their plethora of classic cars, but to also unveil new models and concept vehicles. True to the venue, these models are typically of the luxury, high-end variety.
This year, Stuttgart's showcase here included the Maybach version of the SL Roadster, along with the unveiling of an ultimate GT3 that has been liberated from all limits and restrictions. Equally captivating, however, is the revival of the concept vehicle C 111-II equipped with a rotary engine, as well as a century-old Targa Florio race car that is ready to hit the road.

The crowd was particularly captivated by the orange C 111-II, notable for its gullwing doors and four-rotor Wankel engine. The engine of this classic 1970 vehicle, part of the company's private collection, was revived by Mercedes-Benz Classic experts, enabling the C 111 to take the lead in the prestigious Tour d'Elegance.
Beside him, there was another exceptional classic car, a century-old Targa Florio race car equipped with a supercharged engine. Joining this elite group of classics was a genuine 1955 Mercedes-Benz W 196 R, which the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum plans to auction off at the Mercedes-Benz Museum through RM Sotheby's towards the end of 2024. Specialists predict that this vehicle could fetch a record-breaking value.
Increased Mercedes Presence:
Two World Debuts
Amidst the classic cars, Mercedes unveiled two world-firsts. In keeping with the exclusive setting, the debut of the new Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series was perfectly suited to the occasion. The new high-end luxury sports car wowed attendees gathered at the "Concept Lawn" of the Pebble Beach Golf Links.
At this year's Pebble Beach event, Mercedes-Benz paid tribute to "130 years of Motorsport," marking the anniversary of the first-ever car race from Paris to Rouen on July 22, 1894, which concluded with a victory for vehicles powered by Daimler-licensed engines. In honor of this significant historical event, the exclusive Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport made its global debut at Pebble Beach. This non-homologated GT3 race car has been unleashed from all constraints and limitations, showcasing the ultimate potential of the GT3 category.
