Marquez’s Refusal Shakes Up Ducati’s Plans: Martin Signs with Aprilia Amid Contract Clause Controversy
Jorge Martin agreed to Ducati's proposal, which included a specific clause, while Marc Marquez turned it down. Ducati's offer to Jorge Martin featured an intriguing condition.
According to reports, Marc Marquez allegedly disrupted a possible agreement between Ducati and Jorge Martin due to a specific contractual stipulation that concerned him.
Marquez secured the 2025 official Ducati ride following a significant change in direction by Ducati.
The Italian company had proposed the position to Martin only a few days before the Italian MotoGP. However, they had to quickly come up with an alternative strategy when Marquez declined to join Pramac.
Martin has officially joined Aprilia for the upcoming season, while Marquez has been announced as a new member of the factory Ducati team.
According to AS, Martin agreed to a contract last week to join Ducati's factory team in 2025, and the deal contains an interesting clause.
The agreement specified that the prized red bicycle belonged to Martin, except if Marquez secured the MotoGP championship this year.
Martin agreed to the conditions, but Marquez refused.
Martin is presently at the top of the championship standings, surpassing both the current titleholder Pecco Bagnaia and Marquez.
One could say that his agreement to those conditions stemmed from his confidence in his capability to win the championship this year, after narrowly missing it in Valencia last season.
However, the agreement was no longer an option when Marquez unexpectedly stood firm.
It appears that his decision to decline the move to Pramac, despite their offer of a factory package and support, was crucial in tilting the chances of getting the 2025 official bike back in his favor.
After realizing that he wouldn't be chosen for the highly sought-after Ducati position, Martin promptly decided to finalize his transition to Aprilia.
