Marquez Targets Joy Over Rossi’s Record: Ducati Move Fuels Championship Ambitions
Marc Marquez inquired whether Ducati aims to exceed Valentino Rossi's championship record
Marc Marquez raised a question regarding surpassing Valentino Rossi's number of titles
Marc Marquez was asked if his goal is to surpass Valentino Rossi's accomplishments.
Rossi, now retired, has claimed the world championship title nine times, with seven of those victories in the MotoGP category
His rival Marquez boasts eight championships, with six of those in the top category.
Marquez continues to compete this season with the goal of matching Rossi's record.
Joining the factory Ducati team for the upcoming two seasons presents him with an excellent chance to exceed the achievements of his hero (and competitor).
When questioned about whether surpassing Rossi's championship tally was his ambition, he responded to AS, stating, "I've never focused on achieving a specific number of titles.
"and now, even more so.
"This year, I made a commitment to find joy in my endeavors once more in order to keep pursuing my athletic career, and I've managed to do just that.
We formulated a plan, a tactic.
"Clearly, it's not a single path but rather two, and depending on the outcomes on the track, you can choose either one."
Marquez refuted claims that his response was akin to 'bluffing in poker'.
Competing on a Ducati that's a year old this season with the Gresini team, he has consistently challenged the leaders and contended for podium finishes.
However, a 60th win remains out of his reach.
His last victory was at Misano in 2021, but it seems increasingly likely that his series of races without a win will soon come to an end.
"He expressed his confidence that the number 60 would be reached this season."
"When it will happen remains uncertain, yet one lesson I've absorbed is the importance of not fixating on it.
"For if triumph is the sole pursuit, numerous setbacks will ensue."
"We're making our moves, and sometimes, you just can't do anything."
"In Mugello, my speed was impressive during the sprint, securing me a second-place finish, but the race proved to be more challenging, and I ended up in fourth place. However, I'm hopeful that a win is on the horizon."
"Success is paramount, as titles cannot be achieved without first securing wins."
Securing a championship within the next three years while riding a Ducati would intensify his ongoing competition with Rossi, adding an additional layer of excitement.
For Rossi, the period he endured with the Italian company marked the most challenging phase in his illustrious career.
Leaving Honda has breathed new life into Marquez's career.
Before he transitions to riding the GP25 for the premier red team next year, he already poses a challenge to match Rossi's record of seven MotoGP titles this season.
