**”Marc Marquez’s Bold Declaration: ‘Victory First, Then the Title’ as He Joins Ducati Factory Team for 2025″**
Marc Marquez: "We need to compete for the championship next year"
Marc Marquez emphasized, "Our goal for next year is to compete for the championship," adding, "However, winning races is crucial because titles are impossible without victories."
After obtaining what is considered the top motorcycle in MotoGP, Marc Marquez has declared that he will accept nothing short of contending for the championship in 2025.
Following his departure from Repsol Honda and his transition to a satellite role with Gresini Ducati this season, the eight-time world champion is set to return to a factory team, joining Francesco Bagnaia as a team-mate.
In an interview with AS, Marquez stated that currently, there is no motorcycle quicker than a Ducati, as evidenced by the fact that the top four positions in the latest race were all secured by Ducati bikes.
"We need to aim for the championship next year," he mentioned. "I took a significant step by deciding to part ways with Repsol Honda, my lifelong team, which was emotionally challenging. However, I chose to focus on my career and pursue better outcomes."
Ducati decided to choose Marquez instead of Jorge Martin, the current world championship leader from Pramac, leading Martin to join Aprilia.
The chance of having both riders, by pairing Martin with Bagnaia and transferring Marquez to the factory bike at Pramac, was dashed by #93 just before the Mugello weekend.
Marquez stated that during his initial discussions with Ducati, he made it clear that he had no interest in moving from one satellite team, Gresini, to another satellite team, Pramac.
However, Marquez was open to the idea of remaining with Gresini, where he is currently riding a GP23 from last year, likely if he were given a bike with factory specifications.
“I decided to stick with Gresini to remain part of a satellite team,” he stated. “Honesty and consistency in your stance are crucial during negotiations.”
With Martin's exit, Ducati faces the possibility of losing the championship title to Aprilia, unless Bagnaia or Marquez can surpass the current leader, number 89.
Marquez, who is currently trailing Martin by 35 points and Bagnaia by 17 points, commented on his chances of winning this year's title by saying, "At the moment, we are still working on it."
"Improvements are necessary. At Le Mans and Montmeló, we managed to pull through at the last minute, similar to how Real Madrid often does. However, you can't rely on last-minute saves to win a World Championship consistently."
"Pecco and Martín consistently perform well in every practice, but our Gresini team is also excelling by making the most of our resources."
Despite everything, Marquez emphasizes that winning races is a top priority, stating, "Race wins are essential because, without them, there can be no championships."
So, when can we expect the highly anticipated 60th MotoGP victory to occur?
"I am confident that the number 60 will come this season. The timing is uncertain, but I've learned not to fixate on it… You do your best, and sometimes things are out of your control."
"In Mugello, I was very fast during the Sprint and finished in second place, but the main race was tougher for me, and I ended up in fourth."
"However, we remain hopeful that success will be achieved."
