Marc Marquez Targets MotoGP Title with Ducati in 2025: A Quest for Victory and Championship Glory
Marc Marquez emphasizes the importance of aiming for the championship next year, stating, "We must contend for the championship next season." However, he also underscores that winning races is a priority, as "Titles are unattainable without first achieving victories."
Marc Marquez has stated his determination to vie for the championship title in 2025, after securing what is considered the "top motorcycle" in MotoGP.
Following his departure from Repsol Honda and subsequent move to a satellite position with Gresini Ducati this year, the eight-time world champion will return to a premier position as he becomes Francesco Bagnaia's teammate in the factory team.
"Currently, there's no motorcycle that can outpace it. The top four spots in the recent race were dominated by Ducati," Marquez revealed during a conversation with AS.
"Next season, our goal is to contend for the championship," he continued. "I took a significant step by deciding to part ways with Repsol Honda, the team I've been with my whole career. It was a tough choice emotionally, but I made it with my professional advancement and the pursuit of success in mind."
Ducati opted for Marquez instead of Pramac's top contender in the world championship, Jorge Martin, leading the latter Spaniard to join forces with Aprilia.
The option to have both by positioning Martin next to Bagnaia and transitioning Marquez to the official Pramac bike was dismissed by the #93 just before the Mugello weekend commenced.
"Marquez revealed that during the initial discussions with Ducati, he made his stance clear. He was not interested in switching from one satellite team, Gresini, to another, Pramac."
However, Marquez was open to the idea of remaining with Gresini, his current team, where he competes on last year's GP23 model, especially if there was a possibility of receiving a factory-spec motorcycle.
"Remaining with Gresini means I'm part of a satellite team once more," he noted. "Honesty and consistency in what you want are crucial during negotiations."
Martin's exit puts Ducati in jeopardy of conceding the top spot to Aprilia unless either Bagnaia or Marquez can overcome the lead held by the #89 rider in the title race.
"Currently, we are addressing it," stated Marquez, who is trailing by 35 points behind Martin and 17 points behind Bagnaia, regarding the prospects for this year's championship.
"Improvements are necessary. In both Le Mans and Montmeló, we managed to pull off a win in the final moments, akin to Real Madrid's last-minute victories. While such comebacks can happen occasionally, relying on them is not a strategy for securing a World Championship."
"Pecco and Martín consistently excel in their training, yet our work with the Gresini team is proving to be exceptional as we make the most of our resources."
Nevertheless, Marquez emphasizes, "Winning races is the top priority, since titles cannot be achieved without victories."
When is the eagerly anticipated 60th victory in MotoGP expected to occur?
"I have faith and confidence that 60 will be reached this term. Exactly when is uncertain, but an important lesson for me has been to avoid fixating on it… You make your moves, and if it's not possible, then it simply isn't."
In Mugello, my performance was quite strong during the Sprint, securing a second-place finish, but the race proved to be more challenging, resulting in a fourth-place outcome.
"However, let's remain optimistic for a win."
