Marc Marquez Eyes Valentino Rossi’s Record: Aiming for MotoGP Supremacy with Ducati
Marc Marquez inquired if Ducati aims to exceed Valentino Rossi's number of championships.
Marc Marquez posed a question regarding the number of titles held by Valentino Rossi.
Marc Marquez was asked if his drive is to surpass the accomplishments of Valentino Rossi.
Former racer Rossi has clinched the world championship title nine times, including seven victories in the MotoGP series.
His arch-rival Marquez has won eight championships, with six of them being in the top-tier category.
Marquez is still competing this season to match Rossi's record.
Joining the factory Ducati team for the upcoming two years presents him with an excellent chance to exceed the achievements of his idol and competitor.
When questioned about whether his aim is to secure more titles than Rossi, he responded to AS by saying, "I've never used a specific number as a benchmark."
"and now, even less than before."
"This year, I decided that I needed to find joy in my sports career again to keep moving forward, and I've managed to do that."
“We created a blueprint, a course of action.
"Clearly, there are two paths available, and based on the outcomes on the track, you can choose either one."
Marquez refuted the claim that his response was a form of 'bluffing'.
This year, while riding a Ducati that’s one year old with Gresini, he has often challenged the leaders and secured podium finishes.
However, he has yet to achieve his 60th race win.
He hasn't claimed a victory since Misano in 2021, but it seems that his drought is close to being over.
He expressed confidence that the number 60 will be achieved this season.
"Although the timing remains uncertain, one important lesson I've grasped is to avoid fixation."
"If success is the sole measure of worth, many failures will occur."
"We are doing what we can, and when it's not possible, it's just not possible."
"In Mugello, I had strong speed during the sprint and finished in second place. However, the main race was more challenging, and I ended up in fourth. I'm hopeful that a victory is on the horizon."
“Winning is the top priority since titles cannot be achieved without victories.”
Securing a championship on a Ducati within the next three years would intensify his enduring rivalry with Rossi.
For Rossi, his two years with the Italian manufacturer marked the lowest point in his otherwise stellar career.
However, Marquez's departure from Honda has revitalized his career.
Before he transitions to the GP25 with the official red team next year, he is already in contention to match Rossi’s record of seven MotoGP championships this season.
