Lucid’s Sub-$50K Midsize SUV Teaser Hints at Aerodynamic Design and Leading Efficiency
Lucid reveals initial glimpse of its future midsize SUV, priced below $50,000.
During their tech and production-focused event on Tuesday, Lucid unveiled a preview via Twitter (currently referred to as X) showcasing a sneak peek of a new midsize SUV. The company announced that this new model is expected to hit production by the latter part of 2026, and emphasized that it will be priced below the $50,000 mark.
Lucid announced that its upcoming crossover SUV will boast cutting-edge technology and superior efficiency. The automaker stated that despite having a more compact battery, the vehicle, which has yet to be named, will match the driving range of its rivals.
The potential name for the electric midsize SUV could be Earth. In January, Lucid submitted an application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office to register the Earth moniker.
Peter Rawlinson, the CEO of Lucid, stated in August that it would be years before rival car manufacturers could match the company's level of efficiency.
The preview snapshot reveals a crossover SUV featuring a swooping roof similar to its bigger counterpart, the Gravity SUV, yet it is more compact, comparable in dimensions to the Tesla Model Y. Its facade is reminiscent of the Air and Gravity models, showcasing horizontal light fixtures and a broad chrome accent emblazoned with the "LUCID" insignia. However, diverging from the Gravity, this midsize SUV boasts indented features on its bonnet, echoing the design of the Air sedan. It also has rounded wheel arches, side mirrors positioned on the fenders, and the door handles are not visible.
Lucid is said to be working on three cost-effective electric vehicles, one of which is a midsize crossover.
Derek Jenkins, the head of design at Lucid, has mentioned that the company's upcoming midsize models will prioritize fuel efficiency and streamlined designs. These new models will be smaller and weigh less compared to Lucid's Air. The lineup may include a compact SUV, a four-door car, and there's even a chance for a budget-friendly, sporty hatchback.
Initial versions of the Gravity SUV have started coming off the production line, with plans to start delivering them later this year.
Lucid has not disclosed the official reveal date for their midsize vehicle lineup.
