KTM Clears the Air: No Concrete Talks with Marc Marquez, Focus Remains on Pedro Acosta
KTM discloses the reality behind discussions to hire Marc Marquez
Were there substantial negotiations between KTM and Marc Marquez?
KTM has refuted claims of having had any "definite discussions" about signing Marc Marquez.
Marquez's future is now settled as he has signed a contract to race with the factory Ducati team next season.
During discussions about his future, KTM was mentioned as a party interested in recruiting him.
Rather, they revealed that Pedro Acosta would advance from their Tech3 GASGAS initiative to join their main team.
Hubert Trunkenpolz, a board member of Pierer Mobility Group, informed GPOne that their main focus lately has been on renewing the contract with Acosta.
"There haven't been any discussions with Marquez before 2025."
"We never had a detailed conversation with him, as our main focus was always on Acosta."
"We have made every effort to ensure Acosta is with us for 2025 and 2026."
"Following that period, there are several ways to proceed with him."
Acosta has quickly ascended to the top tier in an impressive debut season to date.
Acosta has achieved podium finishes on two Sundays and, following seven rounds, holds fifth place in the MotoGP rankings. He is the top rider not using a Ducati bike.
At only 20 years old, he is set to replace Jack Miller and will join Brad Binder on the official team next season.
Trunkenpolz expressed their intention to provide Acosta with the environment and chance to develop into a top-tier superstar with their team.
"This wouldn't be achievable if Marquez were in the neighboring garage."
"We don't require this level of focus."
"Acosta aims to win the MotoGP championship as long as Marquez remains a competitor in the event."
"We will energetically assist him in reaching this objective."
This season, Marquez and Acosta have sometimes competed against each other on the track, offering an intriguing matchup between the experienced veteran and the emerging star.
In the upcoming season, the competition will intensify as both racers transition to official motorcycles, benefiting from increased factory backing.
Their emerging competition on the track might involve a championship contest in 2025.
