KTM Clarifies Rumors: No “Concrete Talks” with Marc Marquez Amidst Acosta’s Rise to Stardom
KTM Unveils Details on Discussions to Sign Marc Marquez
Were KTM and Marc Marquez Engaged in In-depth Negotiation Talks?
KTM has refuted claims of engaging in "substantial negotiations" to acquire Marc Marquez.
Marquez has solidified his career prospects by signing a contract to race with the primary Ducati team in the upcoming season.
KTM was reportedly keen on attracting him to join their team as discussions about his future move progressed.
Instead, they revealed that Pedro Acosta would move up from their Tech3 GASGAS initiative to join their main team.
"Renewing Acosta's contract has been at the forefront of our agenda recently," said Hubert Trunkenpolz, a board member of Pierer Mobility Group, during an interview with GPOne.
"Discussions with Marquez have not taken place prior to 2025."
Our discussions with him have never been specific, as our focus has primarily been on Acosta.
"Every effort has been made to ensure Acosta is on board for 2025 and 2026."
"Moving forward, there are several potential paths to take with him."
Acosta has catapulted into the top tier with an impressive debut season thus far.
Acosta has achieved podium finishes on two Sundays and, following seven races, ranks fifth in the MotoGP leaderboard. He stands as the top-ranked rider not associated with Ducati.
At only 20 years old, he is set to replace Jack Miller and will team up with Brad Binder on the official equipment in the upcoming season.
"Trunkenpolz mentioned that they aim to provide Acosta with the room and chance to evolve into a true superstar within their ranks."
"Having Marquez as a neighbor in the garage would make this unfeasible."
"We don't require all this focus."
"Acosta is equally determined to secure the title of MotoGP champion while Marquez remains a competitor in the contest."
"We will proactively assist him in reaching this objective."
Throughout this season, Marquez and Acosta have had their moments of competition on the circuit, presenting an intriguing scenario of the seasoned veteran pitted against the emerging star.
In the upcoming season, the competition will intensify as both competitors upgrade to official motorcycles with additional support from the manufacturer.
Their emerging competition on the track might lead to a championship contest in 2025.
