Jorge Martin to Receive Full Ducati Support in MotoGP Title Pursuit Despite 2025 Aprilia Move, Team Manager Confirms
Ducati promises to fully support Jorge Martin with all necessary resources, even though he's set to leave for Aprilia in 2025. Despite his upcoming departure, Martin is assured of receiving full backing from Ducati in his pursuit of the MotoGP championship.
Ducati Lenovo's team chief, Davide Tardozzi, is adamant that MotoGP frontrunner Jorge Martin will not lack any resources to contend for the championship, even though he has committed to Aprilia.
Martin, who is ahead of Ducati's two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia by 18 points, was competing with Marc Marquez for the coveted position next to the Italian for the 2025 season.
The weekend at Mugello started with whispers that Martin was the chosen one, but in a dramatic turn of events, the young Spaniard ended up signing with Aprilia following Ducati's unexpected shift in favor towards Marquez.
Should Martin, who finished second behind Bagnaia last year, maintain his leading position in the rankings, he will bring the #1 title with him to Aprilia in 2025.
Tardozzi conveyed to CycleWorld.com, emphasizing what Gigi (Dall’Igna) had made clear: Martin will be fully equipped with all necessary resources to secure a victory, just as it has always been. He will possess all he requires to contend for the championship.
Martin isn't the sole youthful victor on a Ducati parting ways with the Desmosedici after this season concludes, as Enea Bastianini, Bagnaia's current colleague, is also exiting. There are whispers of Bastianini moving to KTM.
"Tardozzi expressed deep regret over the departure of Martin and Enea, two formidable riders in whom they had great faith."
Jorge currently tops the championship standings, while Enea has shown remarkable performance, initially shining in the satellite squad before making an impact in red. Unfortunately, a mishap in the season's opening race last year hindered his recovery and affected his performance throughout the season.
"Our preference was to retain them, however, ultimately a decision had to be made."
Despite Martin, Bagnaia, and Marquez being at the forefront of the championship race, Tardozzi hasn't dismissed the possibility of Bastianini, who is presently in fourth place and 57 points behind Martin, contending for the title.
"We shouldn't dismiss Bastianini from the championship contention. Indeed, we are in a strong position to claim victory this season, thanks to having both a highly competitive motorcycle and formidable competitors alongside us."
When directly questioned about who would clinify victory in this year's MotoGP World Championship, Tardozzi responded:
"The campaign stretches out ahead, with numerous possibilities on the horizon. Martín currently takes the front position, but Pecco has demonstrated his formidable ability. He bears the #1, and our aspirations are with him to secure this title once more, marking it his third triumph."
