General Motors Recalls Over 21,000 Cadillac Lyriq AWD SUVs Due to Brake Failure Risk
General Motors has issued a recall for the 2023-2024 models of the Cadillac Lyriq electric SUV due to a risk of the anti-lock braking systems activating when they shouldn't.
The safety notice affects a total of 21,469 cars within the U.S. that are equipped with a two-motor system powering all wheels. Models with only one motor powering the rear wheels are not included in this recall. The issue, as identified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), is that the vehicles may have an anti-lock braking system (ABS) that reacts too quickly.
Under unusual situations, the disorder might prompt the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to turn on when it shouldn't, potentially resulting in a continuous drop in brake pressure. Consequently, this could diminish the brakes' effectiveness or cause them to fail completely. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notes that this issue may occur when the vehicle is slowing down on dry roads and traveling at speeds under 25 miles per hour.

General Motors initiated a probe into the problem in May after receiving two complaints about "minor collisions" supposedly caused by malfunctioning brakes. The car manufacturer has no knowledge of any harm or deaths connected to this defect.
The solution involves updating the software of the electronic brake control modules in the impacted cars, a process that can be completed without the need to go to a dealership. Vehicle owners have the option to receive this update wirelessly, directly to their cars, or they can choose to go to a dealer for the installation.

General Motors intends to send out letters to vehicle owners on September 23, 2024. Until then, vehicle owners can reach out to GM's customer support at 1-800-458-8006 or get in touch with Cadillac's dedicated EV Concierge at 1-844-382-2345 for assistance. The recall's reference code assigned by GM is N242453471.
The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq has faced its fifth product recall. This vehicle, which made its debut sooner than anticipated within the 2022 year, holds the distinction of being the inaugural Cadillac to incorporate GM's Ultium EV technology. Additionally, it was a contender for Green Car Reports' Best Car to Buy award in 2023.
