Future of Pramac’s MotoGP Seat Uncertain: Will Ducati or Yamaha Secure the Coveted 2025 Ride?
Who will secure the top MotoGP ride for 2025?
The championship-leading seat at Pramac, currently held by Jorge Martin, is open for 2025. However, it's uncertain if it will remain a Ducati.
Jorge Martin's upcoming move to Aprilia in 2025 opens up his current leading position with Pramac Ducati in the MotoGP World Championship.
Adding to the complexity of the rider situation is the uncertainty about whether Pramac will continue its partnership with Ducati.
In the most recent episode of the Crash.net MotoGP podcast, host Jordan Moreland remarked, "Pramac is losing Martin, but is there a possibility they'll also lose their Ducati bikes?"
Interpreting the statements is quite challenging. At Mugello, Gino Borsoi suggested that they plan to stick with Ducati for the upcoming year. However, Gigi Dall'Igna mentioned that there is a genuine threat of losing Pramac.
“If Pramac switches to Yamaha in 2025, it will create a whole new scenario for their riders in the upcoming year, won't it?”
Motorcycle racing journalist Robert Jones responded by saying, "It's known that Pramac has been talking with Yamaha. It's also clear that Yamaha is eager to have a satellite team."
"It seems logical for Pramac to consider a switch, especially since Yamaha is reportedly presenting an attractive financial deal. However, this raises the question of who would receive the GP25s. It's probable that VR46 might take over such an arrangement, but then there's the issue of where Aldeguer would fit into this situation."
"Despite the fact that two major figures at Ducati have agreed to terms, numerous issues remain unresolved. It's like they've stirred up a hornet's nest!"
"We need to see what decisions Pramac will make, as this will affect riders such as Vinales."
Rumors are circulating that Vinales might depart, and he has expressed a desire for the best setup. Could this mean a potential move to a Ducati with Pramac? However, will they continue their partnership with Ducati?
"There are still many questions that remain without answers. I believe that Pramac, along with any specific rider, will be a significant factor for 2025."
MotoGP editor Pete McLaren commented, "Time is running out for Yamaha to establish a satellite team for the coming year. They need to start organizing budgets, logistics, and production of bike components soon."
Lin Jarvis mentioned earlier that a decision must be made by Mugello or, at the absolute latest, by the summer break, making the upcoming weeks very important. It appears that Ducati is also awaiting Pramac's final response.
“If Pramac continues its partnership with Ducati, the leading position in the World Championship will be available. Any rider without a contract would be crazy not to consider it.”
"There are still numerous established race winners available."
Jones pointed out that if Pramac partners with Yamaha, it would significantly impact rider choices. For instance, Vinales could join Pramac if they use Ducati bikes, but he wouldn't return to Yamaha, and the same situation applies to Morbidelli.
McLaren suggested that the 2024 Ducati team, with its eight riders, might be the strongest lineup ever seen in MotoGP history. This could be the pinnacle for the team.
"The reigning champions, the factory Ducati team, are being challenged not only by their own satellite riders but also by independent competitors Marquez and Martin from two different teams."
"Out of the eight Ducati riders, seven have secured victories in MotoGP races. The remaining rider, Alex Marquez, has triumphed in a Sprint race…"
If Marquez joins the factory team with Bagnaia and Martin and Bastianini depart, we might later consider the 2024 Ducati roster to be the pinnacle for any manufacturer.
"Nevertheless, by committing to ride a Ducati in 2025 and 2026, no matter the team, you can be assured of having a competitive position until the new technical rules possibly alter the landscape in 2027."
